Long Beach schools’ recycling efforts draw federal attention

Juice pouches, energy bar wrappers and potato chip bags are all items that can’t be recycled traditionally. Instead, the school sends such waste to a New Jersey business called TerraCycle, which takes the rubbish and repurposes it into other products. Long Beach Unified School District board member Diana Craighead applauds the efforts of the Longfellow community to be environmentally sustainable.

There's no such thing as garbage at this company, which aims to revolutionize the recycling industry. New Jersey-based TerraCycle's mission is to “eliminate the idea of waste” and it's been a profitable enterprise. The company expects about $20 million in revenue this year, according to founder Tom Szaky.

Larabar wrappers are now recyclable!

Great news!  Larabar wrappers are now recyclable!  They are my absolute favorite snack to have on hand during my work day.  I also keep one in my bag for anytime I am out and about and need a satisfying snack. Larabar has partnered with TerraCycle and now Larabarwaste is recycled or upcycled to create products like park benches or chairs.  So cool!
