While pet owners often consider the impact packaged pet food has on their pets, the same consideration is not often given to the impact it has on the environment. Pet food company, Earthborn Holistic is aiming to provide food that’s beneficial to both pets and the environment. By teaming up with TerraCycle, Earthborn Holistic pet food bags are now recyclable through the Earthborn ReBorn Recycling Program, a free, national recycling program. Pet Pantry Warehouse of Greenwich is a public drop-off location for the program, allowing Greenwich residents to return their empty bags during store hours and aid in the reduction of local landfill waste.

A couple of weeks ago Merici College’s Sustainability team, ‘SAM’, entered a competition organised by Officeworks and TerraCycle Australia (a sustainability/ recycling business) where we entered a photo showing how we reduce waste at our school. The competition raised awareness of the great work that our schools and universities are doing in Australia, and to reward local #ECOHEROES.  We are very excited to announce that Merici College, together with Sandgate District State High School, QLD and St Ignatius College, NSW have been named the winners of the challenge.

Henkel, a leading manufacturer of adhesives, sealants and functional coatings, including the Loctite® brand, is partnering with TerraCycle to become the first company to offer a recycling solution for anaerobic adhesives.

It is hard not to notice the amount of wasted paper and recyclable materials across campus. After seeing trash cans overflowing with junk, it is also hard not to feel that nothing is being done to cut down on waste.

A Metro Vancouver mayor is pitching a B.C.-wide return-it deposit for cigarette butts — similar to the fees charged for pop cans and beer bottles — as a way to keep the litter from contaminating storm drains and local waterways.

A cooperative recycling project to not only keep packaging materials out of our landfills but to also benefit charitable organizations is currently underway at We Lov Pets at 1433 Coshocton Ave., Mount Vernon.

Für die Wirtschaft hatte Wachstum bislang oberste Priorität – ungeachtet der Kosten für die Umwelt. Dabei schließen sich Umweltschutz und wirtschaftliches Handeln nicht aus. Einige Start-ups, unter anderem TerraCycle, zeigen, dass man profitabel handeln kann, ohne dabei die Umwelt zu belasten. Allerdings haben es diese Gründer dank Regularien und Vorschriften oft nicht einfach.

„Die Natur kennt keinen Abfall, denn Abfall ist ein menschliches Konzept“, erläutert Philip Thinius. TerraCycle fokussiert sich auf Abfall, der bisher aus ökonomischen Gründen nicht recycelt, sondern verbrannt wird.

Auch wenn Müllverwertung in Österreich gut funktioniert, wird kosmetischer Abfall wie Cremetuben, Tiegel & Dosen derzeit nicht vollständig recycelt. Das soll sich jetzt ändern: Ab sofort können alle Produkte der Marke Vichy nachhaltig entsorgt und erstmals zu 100 Prozent recycelt werden, anstatt in Müllverbrennungsanlagen zu enden. Möglich ist die Umweltinitiative durch eine Kooperation vom Recyclingunternehmen TerraCycle, das sich auf die Wiederverwertung schwer recycelbarer Abfälle spezialisiert hat, mit L’Oréal Österreich.
