Known for their “Brigades,” which has students and groups collecting everything from single use drink pouches to empty yogurt containers, Terracycle pays for shipping, prints the shipping labels the Brigades use, keeps track of how many items each Brigade has collected and even provides the shipping boxes.
To make the Brigade program successful, TerraCycle has partnered with a number of well-known manufacturers like Kraft, PepsiCo and PaperMate to help turn the nonrecyclable into recyclable. Earlier in the year, TerraCycle partnered with Walmart to showcase and sell a wide variety of the repurposed products they’d created including tote bags made from Frito-Lay wrappers and purses and shoulder bags made from candy wrappers like M&M’s and Skittles.

Företaget Terracycle har förstått hur den enes skräp är den andras bröd och beräknar en omsättning på ca 5 miljoner efter ett år. För varje förpackning som skickas in till TerraCycle så går 10 öre till Rainforest Alliance.
Kraft foods har ett om- fattande globalt samarbete med återvinningsföretaget Terracycle. Nu tar Kraft foods även in Terracycle på den svenska marknaden, där de ska återvinna och ”upcycla” förpackningar som idag inte återvinns.
Samarbetet blir det första i sitt slag i Sverige där konsumenter själva deltar i insamlingen av använda livsmedelsför- packningar som blir till nya användbara produkter, sk upcycling. Detta sker till en början genom lanseringen av Tassimo varmdrycksmaskin, som bl a tillhanda- håller Gevalia kaffe och Marabou chok- laddryck, på den svenska marknaden.
Nu uppmanas svenska konsumenter att skicka skräp som inte går att återvinna till producenten. Bärkassar, blomkrukor och väskor kommer ut på andra sidan. Fenomenet kallas upcycling.

Genom ett samarbete med matjätten Kraft Foods vill återvinningsföretaget Terracycle ta flugan upcycling till Sverige. I dagsläget går inte varmdryckskapslarna som bland annat ger kaffe och folieförpackningarna av märket Tassimo att återvinna. Nu uppmanar företagen konsumenter att skicka in sina tomma förpackningar med vanlig post. Företagen står för frankering och 10 öre går till organisationen Rainforest Alliance.
One local school in Rockford, Illinois does a great job collecting non-recyclable items and sending them to TerraCycle.
TerraCycle continues to expand its reach into all types of packaging waste with its latest collection programs for tortilla and cheese bags.
The New Jersey-based upcycling company will take the tortilla packaging and use it to make new tortilla holders and other consumer products. It will also collect packaging from the companies' dips and salsas.
TerraCycle already collects waste from various Kraft Foods products like Capri Sun and Lunchables, and will now take packaging from its Kraft Naturals, Velveeta, Philadelphia, Athenos and other cheese products.
Kraft Foods has added cheese packaging to its TerraCycle collection programs. Called the Cheese Brigade, TerraCycle and Kraft Foods will pay postage and two cents per unit of packaging to a charity of the collector’s choice for any packaging from Kraft Naturals, Philadelphia, Philly, Athenos, Kraft Singles, macaroni and cheese, Easy Mac, Cracker Barrel, Polly-O, Breakstone, Velveeta and Knudsen.
TerraCycle finds new uses for the packaging, thereby keeping it out of landfills. Kraft Foods has had previous success with upcycling packaging with its Capri Sun, Nabisco and Lunchables products.
