Six Flags Offers Discount

Six Flags Offers DiscountsKraft and Six Flags are offering discounts at parks across the country for visitors who bring in specially marked string cheese packaging for recycling. The packaging will be sent to my company, TerraCycle, and made into plastic products including plastic lumber and plastic pavers. Visitors who bring specially marked Kraft String Cheese packaging to Six Flags will receive $15 off general admission any day of the week. Polly-O packaging (only available on the East Coast) is good for $15 off general admission every day, or a free kids ticket with purchase of general admission on a weekday. Six Flags and Kraft have teamed up with TerraCycle to collect and recycle the cheese packaging. Normally, this packaging is not recyclable in most areas of the country , and this is the first time it will be recycled! TerraCycle will make the packaging into eco-friendly plastic products including trash cans, flower pots, plastic plywood, park benches, and picnic tables. Visitors can continue recycling packaging that is usually non-recyclable by signing up for TerraCycle’s Brigade program, through which these items are collected. For every piece of trash that a Brigade sends in, they will receive two points, which can be put towards a specific charity gift or converted to cash and donated to the participant’s charity of choice. Date: Friday, July 15, 2011 Time: All Day Event Location: Other Type of event: Fun/Entertainment

TerraCycle Collection Day Friday at Newtown Elementary

Newtown Elementary School students help sort TerraCycle items during the 2010-2011 school year. Do something good for the planet and your neighborhood Friday. It’s as simple as donating your trash. Yes, you heard right. Trash. Since October, Newtown Elementary School has been participating in TerraCycle recycling. The school is holding its first of two TerraCycle recycling summer collection days on Friday. TerraCycle, headquartered in Trenton, N.J., specializes in making consumer products from, well, trash. For example, the company makes bags from Capri Sun pouches, and other products from chip bags, plastic baggies, candy wrappers, etc.

The Outdoor Life: Keep it Cool with TerraCycle ~ Giveaway

Spending time outdoors makes me hungry. That’s why picnics were invented. Who wants to have to go back INSIDE when you’re having so much fun OUTSIDE!? We have a cute picnic basket that, frankly, needs to see more sunlight. However, since it’s not insulated, I can only use it for quick trip-to-the-park picnics. For longer trips, I use an insulated cooler. Terracycle, Inc. sent us a roomy Ozark Trail 36 Can Cooler with Removable Hardliner. This particular cooler has a special hardliner – it’s made by Terracycle out of recycled Frito-Lay chip bags! And, it’s antimicrobial (no clue how that happens, but true!). The Ozark Trail Cooler from Terracycle has zipper and mesh pockets front and side pockets, as well as a 3″ expandable top for dry storage, so you don’t have to pack just cans. The 36-can size is perfect to hold one lunch for our family – we sit it between our seats, and I can grab snacks as we go and zip it back up! If we happen to stop, we don’t have to unpack the whole car, I just lift out the cooler and we’re ready to eat!

What is Upcycling?

Upcycling is the process of converting waste materials or products that cannot be recycled into new materials or products of better quality or a higher environmental value. This is a fairly new term in our increasingly eco-conscious world. Upcycling embraces uniqueness and creativity because upcycled products are truly one of a kind. One of the pioneers of upcycling is TerraCycle. They are taking wasteful materials such as drink pouches, chip bags, and tooth brushes and making them into a variety of neat consumer products. TerraCycle’s products are available through a number of retailers including Wal-Mart and Target as well as online. The goal of TerraCycle is to help eliminate waste. They run their own collection programs at many major retailers, theatres, stadiums, and restaurants. In fact, you can sign up on their website to donate certain waste items to TerraCycle and they’ll pay the shipping to get it from you and donate money to a charity of your choice.
