TRENTON, N.J. (WPVI) --A recycling company in Trenton is collecting millions of discarded cigarettes in an effort to turn them into something reusable. Discarded cigarette butts: they seem to be everywhere, littering the streets.
Saint Andrew will earn one ‘Playground Credit’ for each shipment of empty toothpaste tubes, toothbrushes, and floss containers sent to TerraCycle by the students and teachers as part of the Recycled Playground Challenge sponsored by Colgate-Palmolive, ShopRite and TerraCycle.

West Haverstraw Elementary School has just reached the first level of TerraCycle and Capri Sun’s Drink Pouch Brigade milestone contest by collecting more than 10,000 drink pouches. The students have earned over $200 for their school by collecting the drink pouches.
West Ridge Elementary students earn money and prizes for their school by collecting and recycling the drink pouches used at home and in the lunchroom. West Ridge Elementary has just reached the second level of TerraCycle and Capri Sun’s Drink Pouch Brigade® milestone contest by collecting more than 18,000 drink pouches. The students have earned over $1,300 for their school by collecting the drink pouches.
As part of TerraCycle and Capri Sun’s Drink Pouch Brigade, the students have been collecting their empty drink pouches in the lunchroom at school and at home. Since they began, the students have reached the first level of the milestone contest by collecting and recycling more than 10,000 drink pouches, earning Redeemer Lutheran School over $700.
It’s easy to take water for granted in a country like the United States. Save for regions currently being devastated by drought (e.g. California), we practically have universal access to clean and meticulously tested municipal water. However, even with access to perfectly safe drinking water in our homes, schools and offices, we consume bottled water like it’s going out of style (it isn’t).
