Last Fall, Colgate provided a grant for a pilot recycling program for eight dental schools and eight dental hygiene programs in the United States from September through December. Each school was provided with recycling boxes for specified oral care products and packaging and a
TerraCycle account. For every pound of recycled products received, $1 is donated to a 501(c)3 non-profit organization of choice.
Through Terracycle, an upcycling and recycling company, used writing instruments earn the school 2 cents each. Although this is an ongoing fundraiser, Terracycle is also hosting a collection contest to see which schools can submit the most instruments by the end of November. The school collected more than 16 pounds of writing instruments during the recycling drive.

Students at the University of Virginia are making a difference on their campus by educating fellow students on the importance of recycling. The TerraCycle program was also featured in their campus recycling outreach.

Freeland students are making a difference this school year by recycling their lunchtime waste with TerraCycle. Through participation in TerraCycle’s recycling programs, schools can turn their empty food packaging into cash. Freeland Elementary School is working with TerraCycle to collect empty applesauce pouches for recycling in the GoGo squeeZ Brigade.
Students at Ogden Avenue School in La Grange are raising money for the school through the GoGo squeeZ Brigade recycling program, according to a news release from program organizer TerraCycle. Through the program, the school collects empty applesauce pouches for recycling. TerraCycle awards points based on the amount of pouches collected, and they can be redeemed as a charity gift or cash donation for the school.
Fredericksburg United Methodist Church Preschool is working with TerraCycle to collect empty applesauce pouches for recycling in the GoGo squeeZ Brigade. The school is among the top GoGo squeeZ collectors of 2015, having collected 1,360 this year. Since signing up for the program, the FUMC Preschool students have collected 4,158 pouches, earning nearly $100 for their school.
