Changing this paradigm around special days comes down to one thing: shop differently. Think quality over quantity during today’s Cyber Monday sales, focusing on what those on your list need and on products that enable positive consumption. For examples, TerraCycle’s recycling boxes might make
a useful gift or reduce excess holiday waste in the home or office, and many brands, like S’well (a double good buy for reusability), are offering
discounts alongside donations to good causes peak shopping days.
The Recycled Playground Challenge, a partnership between Colgate, ShopRite and Terracycle, had students from schools in every state collect recycled materials such as toothpaste tubes, toothbrushes and dental floss containers. The items counted toward credits and schools could also submit votes through the challenge’s website.
When toys and electronics are recycled they are physically destroyed, shredded, and segregated into piles of different metals, plastics, and glass. “It's modern mining, to an extent, where they're trying to mine the most valuable aspects of the product, and then pass the rest of the product on to the next guy to sell,” says Brett Stevens, Global VP of Material Sales & Procurement at TerraCycle.

“Toothpaste tubes aren’t recyclable, unless you’re sending them back to a program like
Terracycle,” she said. The company partnered with Colgate® to offer a free oral care product packaging recycling option for consumers.
After decades of pioneering efforts in sustainable packaging, we're taking our environmental commitment to the next level. As an extension of our Players Circle program, we've created an industry-wide string recycling initiative, powered by TerraCycle, to reward players for recycling brand of strings.
