EELDE-PATERSWOLDE - Op basisschool de Kooi worden lege pennen en stiften niet langer weggegooid. Ze worden verzameld voor een goed doel genaamd 'Naar school in Haïti'. De pennen en stiften wordt opgestuurd naar Terracycle, een bedrijf dat is gespecialiseerd in het recyclen van materialen. Voor elke volle doos lege pennen, markers en stiften ontvangt de school een bedrag dat geheel ten goede komt aan de stichting 'Naar school in Haïti'. Deze organisatie is een initiatief van Marijke Zaalberg uit Westerbork. Uitgangspunt van deze in 1998 opgerichte stichting is dat het volgen van onderwijs het begin is van het einde van armoede. Marijke Zaalberg reist met regelmaat zelf naar Haïti waar de stichting met dank aan vele donaties inmiddels drie scholen heeft kunnen bouwen waar 1.200 kinderen onderwijs en voedsel krijgen. Deutschland gehen die Rohstoffe aus. Dabei liegen sie im Müll – und könnten gehoben werden. Von: Anne Kunze 11.05.2012 - 17:21 Uhr Elektroschrott Als Jan Haß den Kühlschrank anschließt, weiß er schon, dass er übers Ohr gehauen werden soll. Er öffnet die Tür. Schimmelgeruch schlägt ihm entgegen. Er rüttelt an der Ablage, haut gegen das Licht, aber da tut sich nichts. »Der is kaputt«, stellt er fest. Jan Haß, 59, ist ein großer Mann mit Vollbart und norddeutschem Dialekt. Seit zehn Jahren kämpft er bei der Wasserschutzpolizei gegen illegale Müllentsorgung. Heute sollen wieder mal verdächtige Container verschifft werden, nach Ghana und Nigeria. Aber das hat Jan Haß morgens um 8 Uhr gestoppt. Vorläufig zumindest. »Alles ausladen«, hat er die teilnahmslos dreinblickenden Mitarbeiter des Exporteurs angewiesen. Und nun findet am Hamburger Hafen eine Aufführung statt, die sich jede Woche mehrmals wiederholt: Die Arbeiter schleppen 72 Kubikmeter Kühl- und Gefrierschränke, Monitore, Faxgeräte, Fernseher aus dem Container. Zwei Drucker. Ein Ministepper, Telefone und Bügeleisen. Auf dem Dock türmt sich der Abfall einer Industriegesellschaft. Alles Gebrauchtgeräte, hat der Exporteur behauptet, der den Container in sein Heimatland verschiffen möchte. Das sagt er jedes Mal. In Afrika würden sie weiterbenutzt. Unsinn, hat sich Jan Haß nach einem Blick auf die Packliste gedacht. Er weiß doch, wie es läuft: Auf Müllhalden in Ghana und Nigeria werden die Geräte von Hand auseinandergebrochen, meistens von Kindern. Die Schadstoffe, die dabei austreten, vergiften Menschen, Luft und Erde. Kupfer, Stahl, Aluminium, Eisen und ein Teil des Goldes aus diesen Geräten werden nach Asien weiterverkauft. Aber einige besonders wichtige Rohstoffe gehen verloren, Technologiemetalle wie Seltene Erden oder Palladium zum Beispiel. Dabei kann man sie zurückgewinnen, wenn man Hightech einsetzt, moderne Recyclinganlagen. Die gibt es in Afrika nicht. Deswegen bleiben die Rohstoffe für immer auf Kippen. Hierzulande fehlen sie dann. Es gibt Gesetze gegen diese illegalen Ausfuhren. Es gibt Kontrollen, wie die des Polizisten Jan Haß. Der schreibt jetzt ins Protokoll: 70 Kühlschränke geprüft. 30 funktionieren nicht. Bei neun von ihnen fehlt das Kabel. Von 200 Fernsehern ist die Hälfte kaputt. Nun ist die Behörde für Stadtentwicklung und Umwelt dran und hakt beim Exporteur nach. Dieser sagt, dass die Geräte alle in Afrika repariert werden sollen. Die Behörde muss den Container zur Verschiffung freigeben. Jan Haß sagt, das Stück gehe nie anders aus. Und er hat es satt, Statist der immergleichen Inszenierung zu sein. Er wünscht sich endlich einmal einen anderen Ausgang. »Der deutschen Industrie fehlen perspektivisch die Rohstoffe«, sagt Ulrich Grillo, der Vizepräsident des Bundesverbandes der Deutschen Industrie (BDI). »Ohne Rohstoffe können wir nichts mehr herstellen.« An diesem Dienstagvormittag in Berlin Ende April gibt es Orangensaft und Croissants, der BDI hat zum Pressefrühstück geladen. Die Männer am Kopf der Tafel machen besorgte Gesichter. Am besorgtesten guckt hinter seiner schwarzen Hornbrille Ulrich Grillo hervor. Er hat grau melierte Haare, trägt einen Maßanzug, Manschettenknöpfe und eine hellblaue Krawatte. Grillo kennt sich gut aus im Rohstoffgeschäft, er leitet die Grillo-Werke, eines der wichtigsten Zinkverarbeitungsunternehmen der Welt. Gemeinsam mit anderen großen deutschen Unternehmern hat er eine Vereinigung namens Rohstoffallianz gegründet. Bosch, BASF und BMW sind dabei, Daimler und evonic. Zusammen wollen sie ausziehen und sich Deutschlands Zugang zu Rohstoffen auf der ganzen Welt sichern. Keiner gibt zu, dass die gesuchten Rohstoffe im Abfall liegen 15 Stoffe hat das Institut für Wirtschaft in Köln ganz oben auf seinem Rohstoff-Risiko-Index gelistet, die über lang oder kurz in Deutschland zu knapp werden: Seltene Erdmetalle, Wolfram, Kobalt und Lithium sind darunter. Als China vor einigen Jahren die Lieferung bestimmter Seltener Erden einschränkte, musste in manchen Werken in Deutschland zeitweise die Produktion gedrosselt werden. Seltene Erden braucht man für Hightech-Produkte, sie stecken in Akkus, Turbinen und Motoren; bestimmte Zukunftstechnologien wie Windkraftanlagen lassen sich ohne Seltene Erden überhaupt nicht erbauen. Wenn das so weiter geht, so die Angst, könnte der Exportnation Deutschland das Baumaterial ausgehen. Deswegen müsse Deutschland etwas tun, sagen die Herren beim BDI. »China kontrolliert und reglementiert den Export von Seltenen Erden«, warnt Grillo, »wir müssen sie uns endlich strategisch sichern.«

Más de 25.000 chicos disfrutan hasta ahora de esos juguetes y, de paso, toman conciencia de la importancia de la transformación. A propósito de Coca Cola, para su versión Light, hace unas semanas organizó un tour comandado por Paul, sommelier de la marca, que junto a Mariana Arias y un grupo de fans realizó en un bus de doble piso un paseo por  rincones porteños (El Café de los Angelitos, Pani y Asociación Eléctrica), en cada uno de los cuales los esperaba un show y un maridaje distinto. La idea, divertirse y demostrar que con esa bebida no hay plato o bocado que desentone. More than three tonnes of material was collected from University of Alberta students as they moved out of residence this spring. According to the U of A’s Office of Sustainability, 6,576 pounds were collected between April 16 and May 2 during the inaugural Eco Move Out.

After eight months of classes and a few weeks of exams, thousands of students living in residence at the University of Alberta pack up and move out each spring. Many, with limited space in their cars or luggage, simply throw out belongings they have gathered to create a home away from home.

A lot of schools in Southwest Virginia are are teaching recycling but Huddleston Elementary is taking it to a whole new level. The Bedford County school is small with 220 students but those students are recycling and trying to save the planet on a much bigger scale. They're taking part in a nationwide program called TerraCycle Brigades. TerraCycle turns what they recycle, or "upcycle" into tote bags, lunch boxes or watering cans. And they don't just collect your typical water bottles or boxes. "We moved to chip bags and cookie wrappers and writing utensils and glue sticks because those are products that I thought we're going to have," said teacher Amy Mallow. "Our kids ever day at lunch have capri suns and chips and cookies, that's easy for us and as a school, glue products, the glue packaging and writing utensils." Part of what makes Huddleston Elementary so successful is this is really a community effort as well. They tell everyone they encounter. Teachers say they don't mind asking for or bringing trash in from events to recycle. Kids also take the message home so they can do more recycling. "At my house now we get to recycle those kinds of things when we're done with our stuff at our house I can bring it here and recycle it," said 5th grader Hannah Nichols. They've recycled more than 64,000 pieces of waste, according to TerraCycle. For all their effort, Huddleston Elementary earned almost $1300.
