Encouraging each other in the area of green

Earlier this summer, I can across a fun and important blog, Girly Green Girl <http://www.girlygreengirl.com/2010/08/theyre-heeeeeeere.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+GirlyGreenGirl+%28Girly+Green+Girl%29> .  She's so officially green, she has business cards stating so!  Along with being jealous of her very cool blog and her being young enough to call herself a "Girl," I became a follower, and soon after that, I became a winner!  I won this fun TerraCycle <http://www.terracycle.net/>  juice pouch tote bag.

Nat Geo featuring Real Garbage Moguls of NJ: TerraCycle

I have written about TerraCycle before… They are an innovative company that takes “Garbage” like wrappers, juice box containers (like Capri Sun, I could never get those open without making a mess as a kid) and take them and make something new with them without remanufacturing the materials. This Saturday on the National Geographic channel they are airing a 3 part documentary about the company and some of the creative projects they have embarked on. TerraCycle is led by Princeton University drop-out and self defined “worm poop connoisseur” Tom Szaky, the show follows TerraCycle’s team of young “eco-capitalists” as they brainstorm, argue over, go dumpster diving for, and eventually create new products that help solve America’s waste problem.

Green Television Shows Educate and Entertain

Thanks to cable and satellite television, you have more choices than ever for watching shows that cater to their own personal interests. It used to be rare to catch a television show that highlights the environment and green living in an entertaining way. Luckily, there are now several networks who regularly feature green television shows that entertain, inform and inspire.  A few of the must see green television shows to watch this season are outlined below.

Review & Giveaway: TerraCycle

This is why I was so excited to learn about TerraCycle <http://www.terracycle.net/> . TerraCycle pays schools, families, and communities to collect non-recyclable waste, which is then upcycled or repurposed to make fun, eco-friendly products like bird feeders, tote bags and cosmetic cases! Things like juice boxes and soda bottles, and now they have two new programs that are more for Moms with little ones - these programs are free fundraisers that pay 2 cents for every used piece of diaper packaging or used baby food pouches! If everyone in your Mom's group was to save these items - which very, very few areas normally recycle, think about how much trash we could save out of the landfills, and you can even make a little money towards projects. It's super easy to sign up for, and when you think about it, saving this packaging for a once a month drop off with your group doesn't take up that much room in our homes. And when Terracycle has collected enough of these materials, they will be upcycling them into unique bibs and diaper bags - how cool is that?

TerraCycle's "Trashy" New Reality Show

"Fishy Business" <http://channel.nationalgeographic.com/episode/fishy-business-4740/Overview> With shows like Jersey Shore and The Real Housewives of New Jersey as popular as they are, it was only a matter of time before a New Jersey  TV show about ACTUAL trash got made.  Only this time, it's about  Trenton, NJ's TerraCycle <http://www.terracycle.net/>  and saving the planet one Capri Sun pouch at a time instead of botox, booze and behaving badly.

TerraCycle Review and Giveaway

Are you tired of every child in the school having the same back pack? Would you like for your child to have something different and unique this year? Would you also like to help the environment by diverting trash from our nation's landfills? The obvious choice is Back To School with TerraCycle <http://www.terracycle.net> . They have many back to school items all made from recycled materials. My daughter received the Yak Pak Backpack

Garbage Moguls TV Show

Everyone's trash is TerraCycle, Inc.'s, treasure. Led by 28-year-old CEO Tom Szaky, the ``eco-capitalists'' at the pioneering recycling company make affordable, eco-friendly products from a wide range of non-recyclable waste materials, including drink pouches, chip bags, vinyl records and bicycle chains. They rummage through trash containers and landfills for materials, conduct brainstorming sessions on how to turn the trash into innovative products ... and hope to make millions. It's an unorthodox creative process, and it's not without plenty of stress, silliness and office politics.

Quick and Easy Homemade Green Crafts

I was recently searching online for a homemade green crafts project and discovered an interesting bathroom caddy made out of toothpaste tubes and thought it might be a fun green crafts project to try. However, once I discovered the silver inside of toothpaste tubes and how durable the material was my homemade green crafts project went in a different direction.
