Old Navy Launches Ongoing Collection Program with TerraCycle Thanks to the sponsorship of retailer Old Navy, consumers and salons can send their old flip-flops to TerraCycle free of charge and receive exclusive coupons in return. The flip-flops will be recycled into innovative products such as playgrounds, park benches and bike racks. Old Navy and TerraCycle held the first Flip Flop Replay which started Earth Day, April 22, 2011 and ran through May 21 at all U.S. Old Navy stores. The nationwide collection campaign resulted in almost twenty thousand used flip-flops being diverted from landfills and instead, used to make playgrounds that were donated to four schools around the country. This success proved the need for a permanent program.

Here are few items that I get asked about and ways you can get them all responsibly recycled. Toothpaste Tubes and Toothbrushes How many tubes of toothpaste do you think you've thrown in the trash after you've gotten that last squeeze? What about old toothbrushes? Once you're done with them there are ways to get them recycled. In fact, TerraCycle will pay for you to send them in. From there, they are made into plastic pellets that can then be molded into everything from playground equipment to garden tools.

TerraCycle makes affordable, eco-friendly products from a wide range of different non-recyclable waste materials. Capri Sun – Honest Kids juice pouches can be recycled by Terracycle as can Candy Wrappers, Starbucks Coffee bags, Zip Loc Bags, pens, Cookie Wrappers, Colgate toothpaste, and more. Yes this is more involved, so try to get your local community or school involved.

Who knew the Nespresso pods were recyclable?   Interesting collaboration with TerraCycle. The coffee grinds inside are scooped out and composted… and the pods (which I had no idea were 100% aluminum) are recycled just like soda cans would be recycled.

En la mañana del pasado martes, 26 de febrero, los miembros de la Asociación de Familiares de Enfermos de Alzheimer "Virgen del Castillo" ofrecieron una rueda de prensa para presentar un nuevo proyecto de reciclaje de material de papelería y escritura como bolígrafos, portaminas, permanentes, rotuladores, reglas usadas, entre otros materiales usados que contengan plástico y que se deberán depositar en distintos puntos de la  localidad.

Zet uw school zich in voor mens en/of milieu? Dan kunt u de Grote Groene Opstelwedstrijdgebruiken om deze bijdrage te vergroten! TerraCycle België organiseert een grote opstelwedstrijd en is op zoek naar jonge en talentvolle Belgische schrijvers die een mooi en inspirerend opstel schrijven over de bijdrage van hun school aan het goede doel. Scholieren kunnen ons dit opstel e-mailen en maken daarmee kans op een van de grote geldprijzen. U kunt deze email uiteraard delen met de docenten op uw school en kijken wie dit met zijn/haar klas wil doen.

Het recyclen van afgedankte pennen is goed voor het milieu én levert geld op. De werkgroep Sterrenburg Duurzaam en de Stichting Dordrecht-Bamenda gaan daarom samen oude pennen inzamelen. De opbrengst van de inzamelingsactie komt ten goede aan het Wakka-Project in Bamenda; een project voor advies en behandeling van mentaal gehandicapte kinderen in de partnerstad van Dordrecht.  

Vuilstortplaats

Lege of kapotte pennen worden meestal weggegooid. Zo komen ze op vuilstortplaatsen en in verbrandingsovens terrecht. Dat is niet alleen schadelijk voor het milieu, maar ook volstrekt onnodig. Schrijfwaren kunnen namelijk eenvoudig worden gerecycled. Elke balpen, vulpen, kleurstift, drukpotlood, markeerstift, permanent en tekstmarker kan worden ingeleverd. Dit gelt ook voor correctieproducten (vloeistof of tape). Merk of materiaal spelen geen rol.
