Last Fall, Colgate provided a grant for a pilot recycling program for eight dental schools and eight dental hygiene programs in the United States from September through December. Each school was provided with recycling boxes for specified oral care products and packaging and a
TerraCycle account. For every pound of recycled products received, $1 is donated to a 501(c)3 non-profit organization of choice.
As
Albe Zakes — the VP of
TerraCycle, a global recycling network — led me through the company's headquarters, he stopped in his tracks once we reached a piece of scrap metal inscribed with the company's logo. "Oh, that must be new. Definitely wasn't here yesterday," he said, and we continued our tour. That brief moment perfectly exemplified the innovative, ever-changing company. The brainchild of environmentally minded entrepreneur
Tom Szaky, TerraCycle has a mission almost as creative as its office space — a New Jersey warehouse entirely furnished with material that's been reused and recycled.
TerraCycle, Inc. started in 2001 when CEO and Founder Tom Szaky dropped out of Princeton University after his freshman year to sell liquefied worm poop in a reused soda bottle, for fertilizer purposes. Despite having little brand recognition and only rudimentary manufacturing operations, Szaky managed to get major big-box retailers like Walmart and The Home Depot to start testing the product in 2004. By 2006, TerraCycle's worm-poop-based plant foods were being sold nationally across the United States and Canada in Walmart, Target, The Home Depot and Whole Foods Market retail stores.
It's fair to say that in most personal relationships the decision to move for one partner's career doesn't always pan out for the both parties. Luckily, that wasn't the case for Anna Minns. The former criminal lawyer had already switched to working on environmentally focused projects by the time her first child was born. Then, her focus was the Daily Lime website, a project Minns founded (and won awards for) to provide readers with green tips including from high profile contributors such as Kevin Rudd and Tim Flannery.

Normally, you wouldn’t give your toothbrush to someone once you’re done with it, but now you can, and for a good cause. The OTC dental programs are collecting and recycling used dental products, such as toothbrushes and empty toothpaste tubes. The programs will receive money for the items and those funds will go to Project HOPE, which buys supplies for the dental students to take on the annual mission trip to Nicaragua.
Como parte da programação, a Coleta Saúde Bucal vai recolher materiais para o descarte correto dos resíduos utilizados na higiene bucal, como tubos de pasta de dentes, escovas de dentes, embalagens plásticas ou de papel de pasta e escova...
