The Hastings Revitalization Association (HRA) will continue to work towards establishing a cigarette butt recycling program in the village. The organization is a few sponsors short of being able to launch a program in tandem with TerraCycle, a company that specializes in recycling difficult to recycle packages and products.

TerraCycle takes the recyclable material and then re-purposes them into useable items. The company’s cigarette butt recycling program has been in Canada since 2012. The collected butts are recycled into plastic pellets to make industrial products like plastic shipping pallets.

Beechview PTA is competing to win a playground made from recycled oral care waste through the Recycled Playground Challenge, courtesy of Colgate-Palmolive, Meijer and TerraCycle. Beechview PTA will earn one ‘Playground Credit’ for each unit of oral care waste, such as empty toothpaste tubes and floss containers, sent to TerraCycle for recycling.

Stel, je vind elke dag een beetje zwerfafval. Dit kun je netjes teruggooien in de prullenbak, maar je kunt het ook mee naar huis nemen en het afval scheiden. Dit kun je natuurlijk ook met je eigen afval doen. Maar wat kun je dan precies scheiden? Plastic – In sommige steden staan er Plastic Heroes bakken, op deze site kun je bekijken of ze plastic apart inzamelen. In sommige gemeentes (waaronder die van mij) wordt het plastic in een scheidingsfabriek uit het restafval gehaald. Plastic snoeppapiertjes Via TerraCycle kun je snoeppapiertjes apart inzamelen. Je verzamelt ze, stuurt ze op en per snoeppapiertje ontvang je 2 TerraCycle punten waarmee je een goed doel kunt steunen. (1 punt is €0,01) Papier en glas Papier/karton kan in je oudpapier bak, glas in de glasbak. Metaal Blikjes van Aluminium/ijzer kun je inleveren bij de ijzerboer, hier ontvang je zelf weer geld voor terug. Vooral na afloop van een feest/feestdag ligt de straat vol blikjes. De meeste blikjes zijn van ijzer (daar krijg je helaas minder geld voor), sommige zijn van aluminium. Dit kun je uitvogelen met een magneet. (aan mijn Iphone hoesje zit een magneet, die gebruik ik ervoor) Ook de bierdopjes kun je inleveren. Maar metaal zit nog in veel meer voorwerpen, denk ook aan: ingeblikt voedsel, slagroombussen, deksels van glazen potten, waxine lichtjes, deodorant, haarlak etc. Maar ook bijvoorbeeld een kapotte paraplu, fietslot of koptelefoon bevat metaal. Terracycle provide a great service that allows you to recycle your pods. You will need to collect them, clean them and send them through the post, alternatively depending on the brand you use, you can take them back to the store and have them recycle them for you. Nespresso pods can be taken directly to a Nespresso store that offers the recycling service. Nescafe Dulce Gusto pods can be sent to Terracycle for recycling.

As a social business with a triple bottom line of ‘planet, people and profit’ TerraCycle’s motivation from its beginning as a worm fertiliser start-up to a global recycling company is to ‘eliminate the idea of waste’. Through nationwide collection programs called Brigades, that are free and accessible, TerraCycle’s purpose is to recycle ‘unrecyclable’ waste streams that others deem challenging, impossible or unsavoury and provide a cyclical solution through reuse, upcycling and recycling. TerraCycle does not believe in linear solutions such as incinerating waste or waste-to-landfill.

In partnership with global recycling organization TerraCycle, D’Addario has unveiled Playback, the world’s first industry-wide string recycling program. Musicians can take their used strings – regardless of the brand – to participating dealers for safe recycling, earning reward points for every .25 pound of strings turned in, which equals about six sets of acoustic strings or seven sets of electric strings.

When D’Addario & Co. teamed up recently with the global recycling organization TerraCycle to create Playback, a safe and independent way to recycle instrument strings, the string manufacturer discovered an untapped market.

Now, the company has launched the first-ever instrument string recycling program called Playback in partnership with the company TerraCycle — which collects and repurposes hard-to-recycle products such as chip bags and cigarette butts.
