Lapstone Public students recycle old toothbrushes
Students from Lapstone Public School are diverting the Blue Mountains community’s oral care waste from landfill for their chance to win one of five recycled community garden sets.

“每次当你看到垃圾，不会想到扔掉，而是让它赋予新生命。”Terracycle策划部经理Joy Nemerson说：“香烟滤嘴的组成物是乙酸纤维素，塑料的一种，烟草的部分也可以分解。你可以把烟头放在袋子里，收集到至少两磅，就可以寄到我们公司。”
烟头的滤嘴可以压制成塑胶颗粒，再塑形成为烟灰缸。截至目前为止，他们已经在美国本地回收了7千3百万个烟头。而咖啡的铝制包装可以再次利用，制成其它商品，咖啡粉也可以变成肥料。
每年，Terracycle公司透过回收垃圾，获得超过千万美元的收入。不过，他们只会赚取年总盈利的1%，剩余的收入将全数捐赠给慈善机构。同时，他们也鼓励民众响应，可以根据回收量累积积分，换成现金或其它报酬。目前全球已经有6千多万民众参与过这个回收项目。◇
