HAMILTON - You can help the Hamilton Public Library earn some money just by collecting your Keebler, Nabisco, Scott and Frito Lay product wrappers and bringing them to the library.
Once collected, the materials are sent off to Terracycle, where they are “upcycled” into products such as tote bags, backpacks and more.
In return, the library gets cash to put towards the purchase of books, periodicals, and other items for patrons.
Officials urge you to help keep the township “clean and green” by bringing your wrappers to the Hamilton Library located a 1 Justice Samuel A. Alito Jr. Way.
Residents who want more information are asked to contact Terracycle Program Coordinator Scott Cianese at

BENTON HARBOR - Two Twin-Cities area schools are finding a little gold in going green with help from a New Jersey-based recycling business.
But perhaps more valuable are the lessons, say organizers.
In order to teach students a fun way to protect the Earth and earn money for their school, Oakwood Elementary is participating in a national recycling program.
TerraCycle Inc. has partnered with brands including Kraft, Nabisco and Frito-Lay to recycle and “upcycle” packaging including Capri Sun juice pouches, Lunchables containers, chip bags, and more. The items can be used to make products including notebook covers, backpacks and pencil cases.
Through TerraCycle, Inc., the school is able to collect food packaging which is difficult to recycle, ship the items at no cost to various warehouses across the country, and receive points. The points can be used toward buying a charity gift or be converted to money for a charity or the school itself.
This year, bringing green into the fall and winter is easy. While packing lunches as kids head back to school, options for staying eco-friendly and keeping lunch tasty are at your fingertips.
TerraCycle, a pioneering recycling and upcycling company, offers eco-friendly, upcycled and recycled lunchboxes as well as a way to earn money by collecting non-recyclable food packaging such as cookies, chips, and juice pouches.
Hey, New Orleans: instead of filling up your trash can with empty food wrappers and plastic Hurricane cups after guests leave, you can reuse the packaging yourself or send the detritus to TerraCycle. In so doing, earn some summer cash for your favorite charity and also keep trash out of landfills. A win-win.
TerraCycle, a recycling and so-called upcycling company -- meaning they not only help melt old cans but also turn formerly useless products into useable stuff -- partners with brands such as Frito-Lay and Nabisco to reduce the amount of waste being tossed out.
The company's goal is to eliminate "the idea of waste" by creating collection and solution systems for anything that ends up in a landfill.
According to TerraCycle intern David Smith, the company has inspired New Orleans school kids to go truly green:
"TerraCycle, in partnership with brands such as Lunchables and Kraft, will be working to keep waste out of the lunch room. As school is revving up and lesson plans are being laid out, TerraCycle will be working with schools in New Orleans and elsewhere to set up brigade programs and collect all the waste possible, while at the same time giving financial rewards for the hard work of these kids. In turn, they are learning about how their efforts impact the environment."
