Ever wondered if you can recycle a Pringles® tube or your toothbrush? Well, you now have the chance to recycle everyday items that typically leave you scratching your head and are often hard to dispose of in a ‘green’ way.
In a six-month trial, Ealing Council has teamed up with
TerraCycle, a leading organisation dedicated to boosting recycling rates. The trial scheme has provided facilities to recycle a wide range of items not currently suitable for your blue bin.
Karen James from
Rossington has collected nearly 20,000 items which are not accepted by
Doncaster Council for recycling.
She has set up a publicly accessible drop-off point at her home on Bond Street, allowing the whole community to send “unrecyclable” packaging and products for recycling.
For each shipment of material she sends to waste firm TerraCycle, Karen receives a monetary reward which she donates to the
RSPCA.
Murad, the clinical skincare brand, has announced a UK partnership with international recycling leader TerraCycle to divert plastic waste from landfills.
The Murad Free Recycling Programme invites brand fans to download a pre-paid shipping label via the Murad programme page, or via TerraCycle, to send off their Murad empties using UPS.
Once collected, the packaging is cleaned and melted into hard plastic that can be remoulded to make new products.

It is meaty legislation and there are a number of stakeholders involved and mechanisms that need to be put in place in order to make it a success. While clarity on what to expect is important, it’s also important that it’s set up to be as successful as possible, and making sure the i’s are dotted and t’s are crossed is crucial to this. We’ve been living through unprecedented times and delays are likely a knock-on effect of this.”
