Beauty and cosmetic packaging poses a challenge when it comes to recycling. It is complex by nature, and is typically made out of a denser, harder type of plastic that can be difficult to recycle, with multiple materials often used in the one product.

New Jersey-based Terracycle has partnered up with Office Depot to create The Binder Recycling Program, which is being held across 1,480 Office Depot and OfficeMax stores nationwide. Customers can exchange their used binders for a $2 discount on a new one.
Recycling company TerraCycle is hosting the 11th annual Jersey Fresh Jam, New Jersey’s biggest showcase of hip hop art and culture on Saturday, August 6. Med god hjelp av innbyggerne i Bodø klarte Rønvik kirke å samle inn nest mest Tassimo-avfall av alle innsamlingsstedene i Norge, og kirken har dermed vunnet 1650 kroner til Kirkens Nødhjelp.

練馬区は７月から、庁舎内の喫煙所で集まったたばこの吸い殻、練馬区提供＝のリサイクルを始める。フィルターは携帯灰皿やクリアファイルなどに、葉は紙などに、それぞれ再生させる回収プログラム「吸い殻ブリゲード」に参加する。
プログラムは、吸い殻のリサイクル事業者と無添加たばこの販売業者が共同で運営。９００以上の企業や団体が参加しているが、自治体としては練馬区が初めてという。
これまで、区庁舎では年間約７２０キロの吸い殻を可燃ごみとして処理しており、約２万６０００円の処理費用がかかっていた。区庁舎内で排出されるごみは、９９％が資源化されていて、新たに吸い殻が加わることで、資源化率の向上と経費節減が見込める。
リサイクル１キロにつき事業者から１００円分のポイントが付くため、区内の社会福祉法人やＮＰＯ団体に寄付する予定。区の担当者は「回収に出す準備の手間もかかるが、ほかの区施設にも広がっていけば」と話している。【五味香織】
きょう1日から練馬区で、自治体としては全国で初めての取り組みが始まりました。区役所内で出るたばこの吸い殻をあるものにリサイクルして、処理のコストも減らす取り組みです。
区役所内には11か所の喫煙所があり、年間でおよそ720キロの吸い殻が出ます。きょうからこれらの吸い殻は業者に提供され、フィルター部分からプラスチックを取り出してクリアファイルなどにリサイクルします。このリサイクルは900を超える民間企業などが行っていますが、自治体として始めるのは練馬区が全国で初めてだということです。
