El Ayuntamiento de Utebo ha puesto en marcha un sistema para reciclar bolis y otros materiales de oficina. Para recoger estos elementos se ha dispuesto unas cajas en diversos centros municipales: Casa Consistorial, Edificio Polifuncional, Espacio Joven, Biblioteca y C.C. María Moliner, en las que podrán depositarse los materiales: bolígrafos, rotuladores, correctores, marcadores fluorescentes, etc que posteriormente serán reciclados y utilizados por la empresa Terracycle como materia prima para la elaboración de otros productos como bancos, maceteros, etc.

La práctica del reciclaje cada vez cuenta con más seguidores en todo el mundo. Poco a poco, todos vamosconcienciándonos de la necesidad de realizarlo para cuidar nuestro planeta y protegerlo de su destrucción, que acarrearía también la de las generaciones futuras. Sin embargo, aún queda mucho por hacer y todas las ideas originales que se aporten en este sentido siempre son bienvenidas.

A través del Programa Nacional de Recolección y Reutilización de sobres de bebidas en polvo que Tang y TerraCycle lanzaron en marzo de 2011, se recolectaron más de 500.000 sobrecitos que serán utilizados como materia prima para la fabricación de nuevos productos amigables con el medio ambiente. Más de 350.000 personas se unieron a la Brigadas Tang para recolectar los empaques.  Centenares de escuelas, organizaciones y familias de todo el país armaron sus Equipos de recolección y se sumaron a la convocatoria para que estos materiales ya no sean basura y para que TerraCycle pueda darles una nueva vida. Con los sobres recolectados, TerraCycle realiza una gran variedad de productos upcycled que guardan la forma y el material original, como mochilas, cartucheras y billeteras, y productos reciclados como tachos de basura hechos con plástico reciclado. De esta forma, se evita que los desechos lleguen a los rellenos sanitarios produciendo un menor impacto ambiental. Los Programas de Recolección y Reutilización de TerraCycle promueven la cultura del cuidado del medio ambiente en la comunidad y la recuperación de materiales difíciles de reciclar como los sobrecitos. Además, TerraCycle realiza una donación de 10 centavos por cada unidad de desecho recolectada que es donada a la organización sin fines de lucro o escuela que el Equipo participante elija. En 2011, TerraCycle, con el sponsoreo de Tang, donó más de $ 20.000 a distintas instituciones alrededor de todo el país. Tang, de Kraft Foods, promueve el reciclaje de sus envases y apoya las Brigadas de Recolección de sobrecitos que seguirán vigentes durante todo el 2012.

Babies are cute. Their diapers are not, for several reasons, many of which involve the environment. Whenever I'm visiting my sister, who has a 2-year-old and a newborn, I'm struck with the sheer volume of dirty diapers in the trash bin. Where does all that gross stuff go? According to this article on Owatonna.com, "dirty diapers comprise only about one and one-half percent of all materials buried in landfills." To me that just means there's a whole lot of crap buried in landfills. The article is about TerraCycle's ideas for recycling disposable diapers in the near future. That sounds like a good idea, but when I read, "Most of the used diapers will eventually be turned into plastic products...," it kind of grosses me out. Sterilization is apparently going to be part of the recycling process, but I still hope the plastic products in question don't end up being plates and water bottles. Eew. - Stifte sammeln für den guten Zweck -

Alte und leere Stifte sind nichts mehr wert? Falsch. Als Gewinner der Stiftesammelaktion von BIC und Terracycle im Bürofachmagazin working@office hat sich ein Assistenten-Team von E.ON Netz in Bayreuth über den Hauptpreis gefreut. "Mit viel Spaß und Freude haben wir bei uns im Büro in den Außenstellen unsere Schränke und Schubladen ausgemistet und leere Stifte gesammelt", schrieb Philipp Spittel an working@office. Die Sendung mit dem Absender E.ON Netz war die größte Sammlung, die bei dem bundesweiten Wettbewerb an Terracycle verschickt wurde. Das Recyclingunternehmen verwertet die Stifte in der Herstellung neuer Produkte umweltschonend wieder.

Consumers are demanding more transparency in sustainability efforts; stakeholders and investors are doing the same. As corporate citizens we need to give it to them. Giving customers what they want is key to any business, and to keep investors and stakeholders on board, transparency is crucial to keeping them informed and happy. Packaging is at the front line of the sustainability battle, since it is one of the most tangible aspects eco-responsibility and is literally in consumers’ hands all the time. Nearly any purchase requires some thought towards packaging, whether it involves food, medicine or even new shoes.

Schreibgeräte und Korrekturmittel sind Hilfsmittel, die täglich in verschiedenen Organisationen wie Büros, Schulen, Kindergärten, Universitäten, Vereinen aber auch in privaten Haushalten verwendet und genutzt werden.
