It’s a fact of life, when the weather warms up, people start heading outside. At TerraCycle, we usually focus on reusing inside the home, but now’s the time to look at outdoor reuse. What can we do to make our patios and yards more eco-friendly? I talked to our Chief Design Junkie, Tiffany Threadgould, who gave me a few ideas on outdoor reusing. Tiffany explained, “You don’t have to spend a lot of money to give your outdoor space a makeover. Look around you for materials you already have. Fun planters can be made from unexpected objects, like unused buckets, plastic dishware, or even yogurt containers. Just drill a hole in the bottom of each for drainage.”

Die Welt hat ein Plastik-Problem. Der Müll, der durch Kunststoffverpackungen entsteht, ist kaum zu bändigen. In Deutschland werfen wir diesen in den Gelben Sack. In Entwicklungsländern landet er hingegen oft auf Straßen und in Flüssen. Doch auch bei uns wird nur gut ein Drittel des Plastikmülls tatsächlich recycelt. Der Rest endet in Müllverbrennungsanlagen. Dass es auch anders geht, beweisen zwei kreative Unternehmer.

Recuperamos objetos de escritorio usados

Os queremos hacer partícipes de la nueva iniciativa de reciclado que el AMPA ha extendido a todas las aulas del cole. Se trata del reciclado de bolis, rotuladores y otros elementos de escritura que no sean de madera. Para  recogerlos hay cajas de cartón en cada clase donde los alumnos pueden depositar estos objetos, que también se podrán traer al local del AMPA. Una buena ocasión para vaciar los cajones desastre y hacer limpieza de primavera en casa.

En abril de 2011, BIC, el gran fabricante mundial de bolígrafos, y la compañía pionera de reciclaje TerraCycle, se asociaron para poner en marcha un programa de recogida de bolígrafos en los lugares donde éstos más se utilizan: colegios, universidades y empresas.

Since 2010, students and faculty at East Middle School in Westminster have been participating in an eco-friendly program through the recycling and up-cycling company, TerraCycle. Now, through their efforts, the school has become one of the top 100 collectors of candy wrappers in the United States, according to TerraCycle.

TerraCycle, upcycled design powerhouse and purveyor of worm poop plant food, helps usher in spring with two new products: A watering can made from granola bags and a plant caddy made from juice pouches.

Last week, the Senate passed the Jobs Act, which contains equity crowd-funding legislation, an idea, as I wrote in a previous post, whose time I believe has come. Having led TerraCycle through its early days and subsequent rounds of funding, I believe that crowd-funding holds real promise for early-stage social entrepreneurs.

Los bolígrafos y rotuladores no se pueden reciclar porque están fabricados con materiales muy diversos. Deben ir al contenedor de basura orgánica. Pero ahora, TerraCycle y BIC han lanzado un programa pionero en España de recogida y reciclaje de instrumentos de escritura, que está dirigido a colegios, universidades y empresas.
