L'équipe de recyclage Grenouilles et Rainettes, les amis de l'école de la Bridoire continuent leur engagement pour l'année 2014/2015 avec un partenariat concernant le recyclage conclu avec TerraCycle , organisme de récupération. En ce début d'année scolaire, la campagne de sensibilisation a déjà fortement commencé. Grace aux efforts et au soutiens de tous: parents, amis de l'école, etc..., et les partenariats crées auprès des grandes enseignes depuis plusieurs années. Amélie Sarzier a pu récolter pour l'année écoulée 1 000 euros pour les sorties pédagogiques et culturelles des enfants de l'école. Des bornes de récupérations sont placées à l'école, à la Mairie de la Bridoire et à l'hypermarché de Pont-de-Beauvoisin. Grenouille et Rainette les gourdes aluminiums style Pompot'es, les TDiscs capsule de café soluble, tout ce qui est écriture et les écorecharges.

As Phase One of the ’200 Stories’ project wraps up, Edge Environment is pleased to have engaged with 200 businesses in the Northern Beaches to reduce waste going to landfill. Over the last four months Edger’s have been out and about talking to local businesses about their current waste and recycling set up. The Team identified opportunities for businesses to not only reduce the amount of waste going to landfill but also save money by reducing their bin lifts or general waste collection. Some great stories have evolved from the 200 Stories project. A few are captured below. The Shop Next Door: The Shop Next Door in Manly are recycling 100% of their used coffee grinds by re-bagging them and giving them to customers for their compost and worm farms. They have also signed up to the Terracycle Brigade and are recycling cigarettes from the Laundromat one shop down so the butts don’t end up in storm water and in the ocean. They have started to separate soft plastic packaging from the apparel and surfboards. They have reduced their general waste bin contents by half, and over 12 months this will equate to 13,000kg of general waste diverted from landfill. Mitchel Bro’s 4X4: Aaron from Mitchel Bro’s has reduced his general waste collection significantly since the Bin Trim action plan was put in place. He has reduced his general waste collection from once per week to once a month by recycling plastic car bumper bars, soft plastic packaging/bubble wrap and engine oil filters. The plastic car bumper bars would take up 80% of the bins contents these are now being picked up by a bumper recycler who reconditions them or donates them to a recycler to create new products. Aaron is now saving $1500 on his annual waste bill’s and is recycling an additional 35,000 litres of waste annually but more importantly is really happy about increasing his business recycling efforts. ‘The plan is working really well, we’ve already had a couple of hard plastics collections and the team know exactly what they’ve gotta do now and it’s really saving us a heap of time, money and resources. By collecting used snack bags from foods such as The Hain Celestial Group’s Garden of Eatin’® snacks, Terra® chips or any other brand, the community organization has helped to divert more than 7,000 units of snack bag waste from landfills, while also earning money for their school or charity of choice.

Money can come from a myriad of sources, but “Dirty Money”? From my recent blog stories you can tell I have a penchant for quirky and fun stories, yet always focusing on repurposing, especially to eliminate waste of all kinds. Well, this time I’m REALLY going to share some stories of companies eliminating the waste of waste – the dirty stuff. Let me warn you, this topic can get “dirty”.

Heidelberg/Berlin: In Deutschland ist das erste Recycling-Programm für Zigarettenstummel gestartet. Der Kopf hinter der Initiative: der Heidelberger Wolfram Schnelle. Zigarettenstummel konnten bisher nicht nachhaltig entsorgt werden. Durch die nationale Umweltinitiative vom Recyclingunternehmen TerryCycle hat sich das geändert. Zigarettenabfall bekommt so ein völlig neues Gesicht. Wolfram Schnelle ist Geschäftsführer von TerraCycle in Deutschland, Österreich und der Schweiz. Das Unternehmen hat sich auf das Recyceln von Abfällen spezialisiert, die bisher nicht recycelt werden konnten. HEIDELBERG24 hat sich mit dem gebürtigen Heidelberger über das spannende und wichtige Projekt unterhalten.

TerraCycle organisiert in 23 Ländern weltweit Lösungen für schwer recycelbare Abfälle. Aus Materialien wie Zigarettenstummel, Stiften oder Zahnbürsten, die sonst in Müllverbrennungsanlagen oder auf Deponien landen würden, stellt das Recycling- und Upcycling-Unternehmen neue, umweltfreundliche Produkte her. Hierfür arbeitet es mit mehr als 30 der größten Firmen der Welt zusammen, die das Recycling ihrer Produkte finanzieren. Über sogenannte Sammelprogramme bindet TerraCycle Verbraucher aktiv ein, Abfallmaterialien zu sammeln und einzuschicken. Für jede eingesandte Abfalleinheit erhalten die Sammelteams eine Gutschrift, die sie an gemeinnützige Organisationen spenden können. 2009 hat TerraCycle den Sprung nach Europa gewagt und seitdem 14 neue Standorte eröffnet, zuletzt 2013 in Österreich.

Depuis 2006, les Mountain Days, c’est une grande opération annuelle de nettoyage de la montagne. La campagne 2014 peut être qualifiée de succès avec 93 tonnes de déchets récoltés sur 110 spots par 7300 volontaires ! Des chiffres impressionnants et une collecte supérieure de 20 tonnes par rapport à l’édition précédente. Cette augmentation est notamment engendrée par la création d’un collectif autour d’un seul objectif : garder la montagne la plus propre possible.   Le collectif est organisé en trois catégories de partenaires (financier, technique, organisateur de ramassages). Les premiers sont représentés par le Conseil Général des Hautes Alpes. Il finance les outils de communication, l’accompagnement aux organisateurs… Les partenaires techniques sont TerraCycle (spécialisé dans le recyclage des mégots) et Green Trek (distribution d’écosacs durables).

Plusieurs écoles de la vallée ont participé à l'opération «Nettoyons la nature». À Aragnouet, tous les élèves ont nettoyé les abords de l'école, apprenant ainsi à reconnaître les différents déchets et à les trier. L'opération venait conclure une animation du Smectom d'Avezac présentant le tri, son fonctionnement et son intérêt. À Vieille-Aure, ce sont les trois classes de l'élémentaire qui ont parcouru de Vignec à la base d'Agos. L'impression est que notre nature est moins sale. Toutefois, la «collecte» remplit plus d'un conteneur, essentiellement de déchets non recyclables. Certaines «prises» furent originales comme des chaussures, des chaussettes et toujours les canettes, les mégots et les sacs plastiques... Cette opération vient compléter les nombreuses actions initiées, depuis quelques années, par cette école. Point de collecte Terracycle, les enfants récupèrent et trient les stylos, les gourdes de compotes et les capsules de café. «Nous avons un projet ayant pour thème «L'art et la récupération» qui va concerner toute l'école, de la maternelle aux CM. Respecter la nature, trier, recycler, sont des notions auxquelles les plus jeunes sont très sensibles», explique Sandrine, enseignante. Les nouvelles générations seront peut-être exemplaires en matière de protection de l'environnement.
