La Grange school earns money through recycling program

Students at Ogden Avenue School in La Grange are raising money for the school through the GoGo squeeZ Brigade recycling program, according to a news release from program organizer TerraCycle. Through the program, the school collects empty applesauce pouches for recycling. TerraCycle awards points based on the amount of pouches collected, and they can be redeemed as a charity gift or cash donation for the school.

Local Students Turn Lunchtime Trash into Cash for Their School

Fredericksburg United Methodist Church Preschool is working with TerraCycle to collect empty applesauce pouches for recycling in the GoGo squeeZ Brigade. The school is among the top GoGo squeeZ collectors of 2015, having collected 1,360 this year. Since signing up for the program, the FUMC Preschool students have collected 4,158 pouches, earning nearly $100 for their school.

Woman recycles cereal bags for Mechanicsville Elementary

Randi Tuck has been getting residents involved in one of New York–based TerraCycle’s recycling programs for the past few years. Through the MOM Brands Cereal Bag Brigade, Mechanicsville Elementary School has become a drop-off location for collecting empty plastic liners from cereal boxes. Tuck will donate money that she receives from collecting the bags to the elementary school.

Business Incubators Helping Sustainability Startups Thrive

In New Jersey, The Rutgers University EcoComplex — known as New Jersey’s first environmental research and outreach center — houses a few sustainable business startups. A notable alumnus is TerraCycle, which now operates in 20 countries and makes $20 million per year. The company moved into the EcoComplex in 2004, and just three years later was selling its products in Walmart and Home Depot.

Onslow Co. School recycling juice pouches in hopes of winning a new playground

“Six years ago I started the Terracycle program here at Dixon and we did it to be stewards to the environment basically and teach kids the principle of recycling,” said Misty Sword, a teacher at Dixon Elementary. The Terracycle Milestone Program is a national one that might help solve a much-needed problem for students. The goal for Dixon Elementary is to collect 200,000 recycled juice pouches, and if they do they win a brand-new playground made solely from recycled materials.
