Sunset goes green in big way

Sunset School helped divert 3,964 units of lunch-kit waste from landfills this past school year, making it the second-highest collector of such waste in the state. The school has been involved with the Lunch Kit Brigade since October 2012. The Lunch Kit Brigade is one of the programs that TerraCycle, an upcycling and recycling company, offers.

Volunteer UCF collecting solo cups to help sea turtles

Whether at a tailgate or a party, red plastic cups are ubiquitous around UCF. Now they can be reused to help other Florida creatures have a good time. Starting Sept. 1, Volunteer UCF's Animal Awareness and Environmental programs will be accepting No. 6 plastic rigid cups in an effort to help sea turtles. For every cup that is brought to the Volunteer UCF cubicle, TerraCycle will donate 2 cents to the Sea Turtle Conservancy.

Amerikaans tintje? Red Solo Party Cups!

Balfour Beatty Communities partners with TerraCycle

Balfour Beatty Communities partnered with TerraCycle, a program that brings communities together to help build a sustainable future through: upcycling, recycling and donation efforts. Tyndall provides recycling for 1 and 2 plastics, newspaper, cardboard, aluminum, etc. Consumers can help eliminate overflowing landfills by collecting normally hard-to-recycle products and packaging.

Iconic Red Party Cup Goes Green

In a general culinary news article I wrote late in 2012 entitled Kitchen News November 2012 , I highlighted that the Canadian kitchen and housewares company Trudeau Corp had announced the launch of its version of the iconic Solo red party cup. Just recently I became aware of a direct competitor to Trudeau called Red Cup Living ; it appears that the battle to win your ecological partying heart is becoming red hot.

Turn Your Garbage Into a Gift!

Remember making bracelets and stuff out of gum wrappers? The owner of TerraCycle probably did that as a kid. TerraCycle is this awesome website where you can not only buy products made out of recycled stuff, but you can help reduce waste by joining one of their brigades, and selecting a product to gather.
There are all kinds of brigades to choose from: Candy Wrapper Brigade, Cork Brigade, Cheese Packaging Brigade, Flip Flop Brigade, Huggies Brand Brigade, Solo Cup Brigade, and more! And for a lot of the brigades, you get paid, or get rewards for sending stuff in! But you don't have to join a brigade and send things in just to get awesome stuff. They've got everything from toys, to pet supplies, to outdoor fencing. And it's all made from products that are traditionally non-recycleable.
Terracycle is one of the sponsors of the Better Than Black Friday Bash. Throughout October and November, I'm going to be doing reviews on some of this season's most awesome toy brands. Then, right before Black Friday, I'm having a huge giveaway event where you can win some things from the sponsors! Because nothing is better than Black Friday... except for getting things for free!

Solo Cup Company Review & Giveaway

Summer is coming to a close this weekend with Labor Day. For my family, we have one final summer party as we kick football season into full swing. Granted we just love spending time with family and great friends. To help reduce the time we spend setting up and cleaning up, we use disposable dinnerware--plates, bowl utensils, napkins, cups, etc. and the brand I depend on is Solo Cup Company.
When I get Solo Brand products, I know I am going to get a sturdy product that I can depend on--I know that they are going to hold all that heavy food and drinks for adults and not collapse in little hands. The other thing I love about Solo Cup Company products (besides the song, advertising them that is constantly going through my head whenever I see one of their products) is that they are eco-friendly!
The unique term "Eco-Forward®" expresses Solo’s ongoing commitment to developing greener alternatives that contribute to a more environmentally sustainable future. Many of their products and compostable, recyclable, created with post-consumer recycled content and renewable resource materials. They also have created a line of products called Bare by Solo which takes disposable dinnerware to another level of green! The Bare by Solo includes renewable plates, compostable plates & bowls, recyclable cups and compostable cups. I can attest to how sturdy they are, so you are definitely not giving up quality while your are protecting the earth.
