After building a community garden in New York City in summer 2013, Garnier, a subsidiary of L’Oréal, USA, and New Jersey-based TerraCycle, announced plans to donate a community garden made using recycled beauty packaging to one of five candidates across the country.
Their Little Bites “Recycle… Reuse… Replenish” Fully Recyclable Lunch Earth Day campaign teaches kids the importance of reducing waste while earning money for their schools by redeeming Little Bites pouches for cash and points with recycling partner TerraCycle® through the Entenmann’s Little Bites Pouch Brigade®.
Little Bites joins an established national TerraCycle Brigade recycling initiative that currently has 38.5 million participants in the US, and has paid out $6 million to charitable organizations and schools for waste collected through its Brigades programs to date. The company has collected over 2.6 billion pieces of garbage, recycling all different types of waste from used drink pouches to tooth brushes to water filters.
TerraCycle currently operates in 26 countries. One particularly innovative brigade was started in Canada but quickly spread to the United States and Europe: cigarette waste. Butts add up to 38 percent of all of the trash on U.S. roadways.
TerraCycle announced its Recycled Playground Challenge – a new initiative in partnership with Colgate, the global oral care leader, and ShopRite, which has more than 250 stores in the Northeast – to help encourage healthy smiles and environments among school children and consumers.

Schools in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Connecticut and Maryland can compete March 16-June 30 for a new playground made of completely recycled material by collecting toothpaste tubes, caps and outer packaging; floss containers; and toothbrushes for the TerraCycle Recycled Playground Challenge
