ELIMINATING THE IDEA OF WASTE®

UNION STATION/NOMA: TWO NEW STORES AT UNION STATION

The mall at Union Station has steadily gone from a mostly-forgettable collection of stores and the Barnes and Noble (which was awesome and which I still miss) to a really great collection of stores in a short time. In the short span of a year, we’ve welcomed Warby Parker, Sugarfina, Carpe Librum, Magnolia Bakery plus the VR Arcade in the lower level, which may not be a store but which is delightful and cool. Last Saturday, September 29,L’Occitane re-opened next door to Magnolia Bakery– in the space formerly occupied by Nine West.

C-TRAN Launches Cigarette Butt Recycling Program

A new C-TRAN program will prevent thousands of discarded cigarette butts from going into landfills. Instead, they’ll be recycled. In late August, C-TRAN began gathering all cigarette butts collected at Vine station receptacles and sending them to TerraCycle, a global, New Jersey-based recycling company that specializes in hard-to-recycle waste. Once received, the cigarette butts are separated by composition and melted into hard plastic. That material can then be used to make new recycled industrial products, including plastic pallets, according to TerraCycle. Any remaining tobacco and ash is recycled as compost.

Walkers is launching the UK’s first recycling scheme for crisp packets - weeks after being bombarded with empty packets in the post. Royal Mail begged environmental campaigners last month to stop sending bags back to the PepsiCo brand, which owns Walkers, as a form of protest because they aren't yet recyclable. Now Walkers has announced the new scheme which is set to be up and running from December.

Walkers to launch crisp packet recycling scheme following campaign

Walkers is to launch a nationwide recycling scheme for crisp packets following calls for the company to introduce environmentally friendly packaging. The crisp packet recycling scheme - the first nationwide initiative of its kind in the UK - is due begin in December, Walkers has announced. A campaign that saw environmentalists sending empty crisp packets back to Walkers using its freepost address garnered attention last month and led Royal Mail to plead with activists to put the packs in envelopes as failure to do so would cause delays to the mail sorting system.
