ELIMINATING THE IDEA OF WASTE®

My Favorite Skincare Products

Thanks To Nordstrom For Sponsoring This Post

I’m super excited to let you guys in on my skincare secrets. I have always struggled with acne for as long as I can remember, so I take my skincare very seriously. Beautycycle is now available at Nordstrom. You can dropped off any empty packaging that can’t go into your regular curbside bin at any beauty department in Nordstrom to help create zero waste beauty routine.   image.png  I have been on the hunt for products to help with the dark spots and scars the acne tends to leave behind. I did some research and headed straight to Nordstrom. I have acne-prone skin and have lots of acne scars and discoloration. It comes and goes. Over the Summer, my face broke out terribly. I couldn’t figure out what was going on—I think it was due the mask and the fact that I have sensitive skin. “Maskne”, as we are now calling it.   image.png  I picked up some amazing beauty products that I’ve been loving and they have made a big difference on my skin. Let’s start with my holy grail product: Kiehl’s Clearly Corrective Dark Spot Solution   image.png  This is a dark spot corrector and brightening serum that helps visibly reduce dark spots, hyperpigmentation and post-acne marks. I love this product; it has made such a huge difference on my skin care routine. It was highly recommended by the sales associate at Nordstrom. I have been using this serum religiously in the morning and at night and I have seen my dark spots fading. I witnessed a true, visible difference on my face within just a few weeks.   image.pngThe next item I picked up at Nordstrom was the Super Multi-Corrective Cream SPF. It such a product, and it goes well with the dark spot corrector. It has a great texture and goes on smoothly. It even gives my skin a bit of a glow. I use it at night before bed as a part of my night time routine. I wash my face and then apply my dark spot serum before moisturizing.I like that it’s a 5-in-1 formula that helps lift, firm, smooth, re-texturize and moisturize, along with SPF 30—a plus for me. I love Kiehl’s products because every product embodies natural, botanical ingredients with a clinical touch.   image.pngAnother favorite I picked up from Nordstrom Beauty is the Dior Capture Youth New Skin Effect Enzyme Solution. Not only is it pretty, but it also smells amazing. I use it as a toner as it helps eliminate dead skin cells and diminishes surface imperfections—just what I need to help get rid of my hyperpigmentation. I use this right after I wash my face, morning and night, before I apply my serum and moisturizer. My skin feels super smooth and hydrated the next morning. Another favorite of mine is the Bienfait Multi-Vital SPF 30 Day Cream. I love this because it has a 24-hour antioxidant and vitamin-enriched broad spectrum SPF 30 sunscreen and moisturizer.   image.pngIt has a perfect creamy consistency to apply on my face and it smells amazing. A good moisturizer is important because I use a lot of products to clean my face which tends to dry it out. This product helps moisturize my skin and leaves it feeling smooth and soft. Here are a few other products I use and love.   image.png

TerraCycle and Nordstrom partner on beauty products packaging recycling

International recycling leader TerraCycle recently announced a new partnership with leading fashion retailer Nordstrom to help divert hard-to-recycle beauty packaging waste from landfills through the Nordstrom Beautycycle recycling program. With less than 2 percent of the 120 billion plastic packaging units produced annually by the beauty industry being recycled, Nordstrom and TerraCycle are teaming to intercept and properly recycle these hard-to-recycle items and ensure that they will never be landfilled, littered or incinerated. Customers are invited to bring any brand of beauty packaging waste to the Beauty Department at participating Nordstrom locations and dispose of them in the provided TerraCycle Zero Waste Boxes. When full, the boxes will be returned to TerraCycle for processing and the collected waste will be cleaned, melted and remolded to make new products. Participation in the Nordstrom Beautycycle recycling program is completely free and is open to anyone. Using the interactive map found on the recycling program’s dedicated landing page at www.terracycle.com/nordstrom consumers can find the closest participating Nordstrom location where they can bring their empty beauty products to be recycled. One of the locations listed is the Nordstrom store in the Village of Merrick Park shopping center. “TerraCycle’s mission has always been to ‘Eliminate the Idea of Waste’ and we’ve proven that solutions do exist for items that may seem difficult to recycle,” said Tom Szaky, founder and CEO of TerraCycle. “Nordstrom not only shares our commitment but has taken it to the next level by spearheading the Nordstrom Beautycycle recycling program to reduce the impact of beauty packaging waste on the environment and help pave the way for a greener future.” TerraCycle works with major manufacturers and retailers to recycle products and packaging that would normally be thrown away. NOBLE PANACEA: ELEVATING BEAUTY AND THE MIND

Noble Panacea. Even the name is impressive. Just like how this cutting-edge beauty brand is multi-layered in complex science and innovative development, so is its name. On the one hand, it may seem oblique. But you soon realise that it gives a nod to its founder Noble Prizewinner Sir Fraser Stoddart. On the other, it has a deeper significance, referencing academic connotations (Panacea is the Greek goddess of universal remedies) so that you know this is not your average, off-the-shelf cosmetic company.

Nordstrom Wants to End the Waste Problem in the Beauty Industry

Have you ever noticed how many words us beauty people have for using up our products? There's "hit pan," which is code for cleaning out a shade in a makeup palette. There's also "empties," a cutesy way of saying you've used your products until the last drop. But the important part, at least where Mother Earth is concerned, is what comes next – and it may not be what you think.   As we reported early this year, throwing empty products in your blue recycling bin with the best of intentions unfortunately isn't enough to ensure that your used packaging will have a second life. Only nine percent of all plastic waste ever produced has actually recycled. This is due in part to the complex nature of product packaging, which makes it difficult to sort for users and impossible to sort for waste management machines. Lotion pumps, for example, are typically made with a metal spring and plastic tubes. Even if you rinse it out and toss it in the bin, the multifaceted materials mean it'll end up in a landfill. Or in the ocean. Or on Trash Mountain.

Tips for a Low-Waste, Low Risk Halloween

The scariest thing about Halloween isn’t the ghosts, or goblins, or ghouls. It’s the amount of waste generated in celebration of the holiday. From the literal tons (300,000 to be exact) of candy we purchase, individually-wrapped in single-use plastic and often times thrown out before it’s eaten, to the mass amount of decorations big box stores put on display as early as July, we have a Halloween consumption problem. Don’t get spooked yet though! As the St. Louis City Mayor announcesHalloween is not canceled, the city has released official guidelines for a safe Halloween. Read on to see our tips for a low-waste holiday.

Enjoy A Safe, Fun, And Earth-Friendly Halloween In Iowa City

This coming Halloween may be unlike past years due to COVID-19, but there are still plenty of ways to have a safe, spooky, and Earth-friendly holiday.
Iowa City's recycling coordinator Jane Wilch has a Jack-o'-lantern filled with fun ideas on how to have a green Halloween this year.
Durable, reusable, recyclable Halloween decorations. Choose decorations that you can use year after year. For recyclable decorations, look for plastics that are #1-5 or #7, as #6 and unlabeled plastics are not recyclable. Avoid metallic or glitter-coated decorations, as these cannot be recycled. Retail Flagship Store Opens Its Doors During This Precarious Time to Offer Sustainable Products and Community Recycling Programs

Koru Eco Brand opens its’ flagship store in downtown Cocoa Beach, Florida. One of the first retail stores of its kind in the area, Koru Eco Brand offers its own sustainable swimwear, apparel, accessories and home goods along with other sustainable lifestyle brands. In 2012, when the company first entered the market, it was primarily a high-end sustainable swimwear brand called Koru Swimwear. As the company grew, it expanded into eco-friendly apparel and accessories in addition to selling its swimwear. “Our mission to be a sustainable swimwear and apparel brand grew to be more of a lifestyle brand with added beauty and home products, so we decided to rename the company from Koru Swimwear to Koru Eco Brand…it made more sense to do that with the expansion of our products,” stated Julie Stine, Koru Swimwear and Koru Eco Brand Founder and CEO. She continued, “We really feel it’s important to incorporate education in our ads and in our store so people can understand the importance of making conscious purchases that have a lighter footprint on our earth. We depend on our earth to provide us with a healthy environment for our survival, so it’s important we take care of it.”
