ELIMINATING THE IDEA OF WASTE®

Seeing single: How can monomaterial packaging help your brand be greener?

With today's beauty consumer more environmentally conscious than ever, sourcing recyclable, reusable and overall sustainable packaging is no longer a luxury but a necessity for successful cosmetics and personal care brands. As beauty giants announce increasingly ambitious recycling targets, take steps to cut down their factory emissions and partner with eco-friendly refill initiatives such as TerraCycle's Loop, one increasingly popular shortcut to sustainability is monomaterial packaging.

Shop Sustainably: These 13 Beauty Brands Make Recycling Empties Way Easier

The beauty industry, we know, needs to make significant strides toward a more sustainable future. We need to do this in all areas of the industry, from responsibly sourced ingredients that don't deplete our natural reserves to finding biodegradable formulas that don't harm our soil and waterways. One of the more obvious areas we have loads of room for improvement is packaging: Not only do we produce a significant amount of product (TerraCycle estimates there are 120 billion units of product produced each year), but much of what is produced is single-use plastic. Even if you do your best, much of what you toss in the blue bin likely still will end up in the landfill as beauty bottles are notoriously hard to properly recycle. That's a lot of beauty products that will end up cluttering our earth and oceans.

Price Hanna Releases AHP Study

Report examines sustainability efforts within the industry
Price Hanna Consultants LLC, a management consulting firm whose principals have specialized in the nonwoven products, absorbent hygiene products (AHPs) and related fields, worldwide, for more than 35 years, has published a new report which provides a comprehensive global analysis of the threats and opportunities faced by the AHP industry relating to issues of environmental sustainability. Upon studying the entire supply chain and product lifecycle of AHPs, the report evaluates how current developments in science and industry help the AHPs industry solve one, or both, of the two major problems facing the industry today in terms of sustainability: 1) plastics pollution in the oceans and 2) climate change. The report begins with a rigorous examination of the basic building blocks of AHPs, including the polymers and other raw materials from which key components are manufactured. An examination of the immense trove of research on the topic has produced findings about polymers and other raw materials most relevant to AHPs. The report navigates the scientific body of research and summarizes which industry early adopters are interacting and contributing to this research. Moreover, the report evaluates various directions of the relevant research and which developments show most promise for mitigating or eliminating the ongoing problems of plastics pollution in the oceans traceable to AHPs and the CO2 emissions that contribute most to climate change. Providing a detailed description and analysis of the status of technology developments in each level of the supply chain for AHPs, this report features individual sustainability profiles on more than 100 companies. Additionally, the report delivers strategic analysis, from the perspective of the AHPs industry, of a range of comprehensive approaches to sustainability that involve the social, industrial and government sectors. Included in the report are four in-depth case studies: 1) Circular Economy Design at Unicharm Corporation; 2) DYPER and TerraCycle’s “REDYPER” Program; 3) Procter & Gamble and the EU’s EMBRACED Project; and 4) Kimberly-Clark and the Bioplastic Feedstock Alliance. Following these case studies, a market analysis of the growing consumer demand for more sustainable AHPs is presented. Capturing this demand is essential to any market growth strategy within the AHPs industry. Lastly, current global policy developments to curb marine plastic waste and climate change that may impact the AHPs industry are carefully examined and evaluated.
Our final conclusions take a progress-over-perfection approach to suggest two primary pathways forward—the compostability pathway and the recycling pathway. This report illustrates why the largest challenge facing the AHPs industry today is to increase the level of communication and collaboration between suppliers, manufacturers, regulators, and consumers to achieve a more sustainable AHPs industry.

Dyper Gains Investor

Eco-friendly diaper company also announces the acquisition of diaper composting service Earth Baby   image.png The Craftory is investing $20 million into Dyper to support its expansion in the U.S. and amplify its impact. The Craftory is leading the round with existing investor HCAP also participating. An estimated 27.4 billion disposable diapers are used annually in the U.S., resulting in 3.4 million tons of used diapers added to landfills yearly. Scientists estimate a discarded disposable diaper containing plastic takes approximately 450 years to decompose. This makes diapers as environmentally dangerous as single use plastic bags with similar risks of micro plastics entering the environment, the company says. Dyper is a subscription-based diaper service that delivers the highest quality bamboo-based compostable diapers directly to customer's doorstep each month. They are free from chlorine, latex, alcohol, PVC, lotions, TBT or Phthalates and unprinted, unscented, soft to the touch, yet extremely durable and highly absorbent. Dyper packaging is made from oxo-degradable materials, and Dyper purchases carbon offsets that actively promote reforestation for each delivery. Dyper subscribers can also opt-in to the first of its kind ReDyper program, which uses specially engineered UN Haz Mat shipping boxes to return soiled diapers for composting. The waste composted through this program is used in specialized applications, such as for vegetation in highway medians. Dyper has also announced the acquisition of Earth Baby, which has led a regional diaper composting service in the San Francisco Bay Area since 2008. "Dyper was created because I knew there had to be a better way to diaper babies with the safest materials," says Sergio Radovic, CEO and founder, Dyper. "Earth Baby has been a pioneer in the diaper composting space and by marrying our brands we are able to close the loop in the diaper supply chain by offering manufacturing, distribution and in-house composting to complete the diapering cycle in the most earth-friendly way possible." The Earth Baby acquisition will enable customers in the San Francisco Bay Area to enjoy easy pickup and delivery of Dyper's compostable diapers, positioning the company to expand the service into more major cities in the U.S. and ultimately evolve into a full-service eco-friendly baby products' concierge service. Founded in 2008, Earth Baby's founders, Mark Siminoff and Tony Patron, started their company as young parents who were passionate about the planet. Earth Baby was the first and only diaper composting service in the United States. "We are thrilled to have found a kinship with Sergio and the Dyper company," says Tony Patron, co-founder of Earth Baby, "Together we can take this shared mission to the next level through ReDyper's expansion and continue to compost diapers to ensure that consumers aren't adding to the more than 20 billion diapers filling landfills in the U.S. yearly." Siminoff and Patron will remain on the executive team as part of the Dyper acquisition overseeing the ReDyper program and logistics including immediate plans for local market expansion in Los Angeles, San Diego, Phoenix, Arizona and Las Vegas, Nevada. Dyper will continue the national ReDyper program with TerraCycle to allow all U.S. families to have the easy ability to limit their carbon footprint and have their Dyper diapers composted and eliminated from entering landfills.

Eco-Friendly Diaper Service, DYPER, Expands Composting Capabilities, Introduces Local Delivery And Pick Up Through Acquisition Of Bay Area Pioneer, Earth Baby

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., Oct. 15, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- DYPER, the rapidly growing eco-friendly diaper delivery service is making another stride in its mission to divert diapers from landfills with the acquisition of Earth Baby, which has led a regional diaper composting service in the San Francisco Bay Area since 2008. On the heels of a $20MM investment from global group, The Craftory, and after making headlines earlier this year with its revolutionary "compost by mail" program REDYPER, DYPER now takes this next step in its eco-promise and announces expansion via local market delivery and in house composting. In addition to its eco-friendly promise, DYPER offers a better way for diapering your baby with soft and absorbent diapers that are free of harsh chemicals, dyes or fragrance.

One Stop Shop for Beauty at Nordstrom

Sharing with you guys some of my top favorites and go-to’s when it comes to beauty. I gotta be honest I have been using the same products for years and while I have tried different things and switched it up a little bit this are my tried + true picks overall. The basics – just like fashion I like to keep my basics solid and work off of them by adding accessories, layers, and jewelry. Same goes for beauty I like to start with my basics and stack on top of it with fun blush colors, beautiful hues of lipstick, and fun eyeshadow. Nordstrom is and has always been my one stop shop for beauty. I remember being a young girl and just drooling at my mom at the makeup counter. I could not wait for the day they would “color match” me or find the perfect shade of lipstick. Well now the day has come and I’m the one at the beauty counter still loving every second of it. I love going to Nordstrom for my beauty products because they have everything I have every needed and it’s so convenient. Nordstrom also launched a huge movement for recycling beauty packages called BEAUTYCYCLE where you can now take your empty beauty products to any Nordstrom and recycle them regardless of where you purchased them. I LOVE this so much! You all know 2020 has been my year to go greener and this is right up that alley. Talking a little more about my beauty picks below!

BEAUTY LINE UP

Estee Lauder Double Wear : This has been my holy grail foundation for years now. For starts it lasts all day and night – it does not budge! The coverage in unmatched and I love that it’s buildable. Somedays I go for a more subtle look with a thin layer and others I am able to use a little more for more coverage. I’m in the shade HoneyBronze. I love that they have so many shades to choose from to find the perfect match! Too Faced Bronzer Love this bronzer so much! I’m never without it. I love the medium shade. It blends well and gives a nice matte bronze look. Not to mention it smells like heaven! Too Faced Born This Way Concealer: I have only been using this concealer for the past year now but I’m never looking back. So many things I love about it! I love the coverage, how easily it blends, and the variety of shades they have. I wear Golden Beige and love it! CreamCup Lipstick : This is a go-to neutral color! Perfect for any season! I love creamcup for any occasion. It is a mix of nude/pink and so flattering on every skin tone. Pillowtalk Lipliner: This lipliner is a little on the pricey side but oh so worth it. Just like creamcup it is the pink/nude hue and this specific lipliner is such a great on to make your lips appear a little fuller than they are. Monsieur Big Mascara : This is what I like to call an OG mascara! It is a rich black color that not only gives you lashes extra volume but so easy to apply! Cils Booster XL Vitamin-Infused Mascara Primer: If you’re looking to giving your lashes a little extra volume and length you this is your primer. It is so good at giving your lashes extra length, volume, and helps your lashes stay curled longer, all while infusing your lashes with vitamins. Also, I have tried many lash primers and nothing compares to this one – worth the money. Mac Mineralize Skinfinish Powder Highlighter: I love all of the MAC highlighters but I especially love this one to give your face an extra glow! Especially for the cooler months it gives you skin a moisturized warm glow. Mac Studio Fix Powder: Another OG I have been using since high school friends. YES high school! It’s coverage is unreal and the consistency is so great! It stays all day and can be worn alone or on top of foundation. I’m in the shade C4 Brow Dip: I love brow dip! I have tried so many products and always come back to this brow dip. it is so easy to use and creates such a great brow. I wear the color chocolate. Single Pass Curl 1.25: This curling iron is a little splurge but boy is it good! The curl it gives is so consistent and last so long. I can go 3-4 days without recurling my hair. I also love the 1.25 barrel to give you that loose curl after it falls.

The Best Nude Pink Lipsticks I Love Year-Round

Finding the perfect lip color can be difficult. Plus, I hold my lipsticks up to a high standard: they must be long-lasting and I need to be able to eat and drink without them wearing off. A few years ago, I tried a liquid lipstick just for fun and it turned out to be my favorite formula of all time. Ever since I almost only wear matte lip colors and prefer them to be nude pink lipsticks. I love to mix and match and once I find a formula that works, I like to stick to it. I’m loyal to my lipsticks. I’m excited to share the best nude pink lipsticks I love year-round.

Recycling Your Beauty Products

Before we dive into my favorite lipsticks, I want to share something really exciting Nordstrom recently launched. Some of you may know I am a big proponent of not wasting product. I will squeeze every last drop of concealer and foundation, sometimes even opening the packaging to do so. Fun fact: on most tube packaging such as concealer you can take the “stopper” out with a pair of tweezers or pliers to get every last drop of product. I also cut open plastic foundation tubes and leave in a ziploc bag so I can use every bit of it! I try my best to recycle, but empty beauty containers are hard. It’s a mix of plastic, metal… and sometimes it’s not as easy as dumping into your local recycling bin. Nordstrom now has a program called BeautyCycle, where you can bring in your empty beauty packaging and they will ship it to Terracycle. There, it’s sorted properly and then recycled. It makes it easy and you know it’s being properly taken care of. Blogger Hoang-Kim wearing her favorite nude pink lip combos with Charlotte Tilbury liner in Iconic Nude

My Favorite Lip Liners

When I was younger, I thought lip liners were overrated. Now, I love them! I cannot do my lip combo without liner and I truly believe lip liners help your lip color last longer. I prefer creamy formulas that glide on. The color payoff has to be great and I prefer getting colors I can wear on its own, too.

Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat Liner

My all-time favorite lip liner to use with my nude pink lipsticks. The pencil doesn’t drag on your lips and truly glides on. It lasts a long time and the colors are beautiful. Iconic Nude is my favorite shade because it’s a true nude. It looks beautiful under any lipstick you decide to wear, so you can buy just this one liner and be done. Another color I love is Pillowtalk.

MAC Lip Pencil

The very first high-quality lip liner I ever used, I remember my Mom going into Nordstrom, walking up to the MAC counter and purchasing this lip liner and her favorite lipstick. Every time I use this lip pencil, I think of her. Whirl is my favorite MAC shade because it’s a beautiful nude with hints of a berry pink. While it’s perfect for Fall it’s a great shade for year-round, too. My Favorite Nude Pink Lipsticks

Too Faced Melted Matte

If I had to choose one nude pink lipstick to wear for the rest of my life, it would be this one. I can apply this in the morning and in the evening, my lip color would still be intact. This is through lunch, drinking tons of water and more! The formula glides on smoothly, doesn’t make my lips peel and the color is opaque. My favorite shades are Cool Girl (what I’m wearing in these photos), My Type, Child Star, Queen B and Sellout. Can you tell I love this lipstick!?

YSL Rouge Pur

A newer addition to my lip favorites, this lipstick is super creamy and the shade is beautiful. It’s not super long-lasting, but it’s very moisturizing and does wear well for the hours it’s on. I love shade 10, which is a true nude pink. This is truly a luxurious lipstick and I love using it with both the Iconic Nude lip liner or Whirl.

Charlotte Tilbury Kissing Lipstick

The name says it all: if you plan on doing any kissing (or eating or drinking) this lipstick is for you. Again, not as truly long-lasting as the Too Faced Melted Matte, but does a wonderful job. Ths is creamy, moisturizing and the color selection is gorgeous. My favorite shade is Nude Kate because it’s a true nude.

NORDSTROM BEAUTY FALL MUST HAVES!

Nordstrom Beauty Fall Must-Haves!

It’s been way too long since I did a beauty roundup on here! Nordstrom Beauty is having an amazing beauty sale right now that I had to fill my girls in on. Some of these products are staples for me, especially through the fall months, and some are new brands I can’t wait to try! I’m also so excited for Nordstrom Beauty’s new Beautycycle program that started this month! The goal is to help beauty lovers to reduce their packaging waste. From now on, anytime you finish a beauty product, you can just drop it in a Beautycycle bin at Nordstrom! All of the packagings will be recycled into brand new products – it’s so awesome. I’m planning on keeping a bag under my sink and just filling it up with empties (omg, who remembers empties videos?!) so I can drop them off the next time I head to the hallowed halls (aka, Nordstrom
