Throughout the month of November, the ecological committee of the Triolet school collected the Halloween candy packaging in order to send it to the waste management company TerraCycle, which will recycle it.   Thank you to the students who are helping to save the planet, one small gesture at a time!          

Howell and her classmates saved their candy wrappers — eventually amounting to six garbage bags, stuffed full — as part of a recycling campaign organized by CBC stations in Gander, Corner Brook and Happy Valley-Goose Bay for the month following Halloween. Anyone was welcome to drop off snack wrappers at the stations, which after Nov. 30 will be sent to Terracycle, a company repurposing hard-to-recycle plastics.

This year, CBC stations in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Gander and Corner Brook did something about just that. They got boxes from a company called Terracycle, and have been collecting exactly this kind of waste.

4) Help your candy wrappers rise from the dead! If you’re really crafty, you can take your used candy wrappers and make cute barrettes, hair bows, and broaches. For a simpler option, send your candy wrappers to Terracycle’s Candy Wrapper Zero Waste Box. There, candy wrappers are repurposed and used to make notebooks, tote bags, and much more.
