Royal Mail begged environmental campaigners last month to stop sending bags back to the PepsiCo brand, which owns Walkers, as a form of protest because they aren't yet recyclable. Now Walkers has announced the new scheme which is set to be up and running from December.

Walkers starts a recycling effort for potato chips bags after protests

Last month, PotatoPro reported on a consumer protest in the United Kingdom to convince snack manufacturer Walkers, a brand of Pepsico to come up with a better packaging for its potato chips. The protest included an online petition that was signed by over 300.000 people and a call to mail empty crisp packages back Walkers. In a response, Walkers now has announced that it will launch a nationwide recycling scheme for crisp packets in the United Kingdom. People will be encouraged to either drop off their packets at one of the hundreds of public access collection points that will be developed all around the country or alternatively post them for free directly to TerraCycle for recycling.
