Post Malone’s Maison No.9 Wine: Is it worth the hype?

image.png Over the years, rap music has become synonymous with a number of topics, including alcohol. So much so, that even the most unschooled among us are likely to be able to rattle off the names of several high-profile drinks mentioned in chart-topping songs. It seems only natural then, that many artists have gone on to launch their own boozy brands, from Diddy’s Ciroc vodka to Jay Z’s Armand de Brignac champagne and Myx Moscato, the flavoured liqueur partly owned and often. rapped about by Nicki Minaj. But, the latest celebrity to join this roster of musicians investing their time and money into the alcohol industry might surprise you. Post Malone, the rapper best known for his face tattoos and writing songs about feeling sad, has launched his very own rosé wine. While many wouldn’t expect rosé to be the singer's drink of choice, it turns out he’s quite the wine connoisseur. Named Maison No.9 – after his favourite tarot card, the Nine of Swords, which symbolises overcoming challenges – the wine was born from Post Malone’s love of the Mediterranean lifestyle and created in collaboration with his long-time manager Dre London and friend James Morrissey. “Rosé is for when you want to get a little fancy,” Post Malone said about his new offering. “It’s a nice switch up.” It would be easy to dismiss the rapper’s endeavour but he has gone to surprising lengths to ensure his tipple ticks all the right boxes, with the trio tasting over 50 blends of rosé and regularly visiting their chosen winery, located near Saint-Tropez in the French Riviera, before settling on the right one. They even worked closely with famous winemaker Alexis Cornu, winner of 15 gold medals and seven 90+ point rosé wines. The artist initially launched his drink in the US earlier this year, and it has already proved hugely popular, selling out of the 50,000 bottles reserved for its May 2020 pre-sale in just 48 hours and crashing the world’s largest online wine retailer Vivino’s website. Plus stars like Kylie Jenner and Justin Bieber are already big lovers of it, having shared photos of themselves posing with the wine on social media.
Maison No.9
Maison No.9 Now, after months of waiting, UK fans of Post Malone can finally get their hands on his rosé, with a limited online release launching just in time for Christmas on 17 December, before it rolls out nationwide in the UK in 2021. But, what does its taste like and is it really worth the hype? We loved everything about our first experience with Maison No.9, including the bottle. The pale salmon pink drink is housed in a tall, slender glass vessel that comes etched with the brand’s name in a brilliant white gothic font. In place of a cork, the rapper has also designed a luxurious yet sustainable glass stopper cap with raised edges, meant to mirror the shape of a castle located near the vineyard where the grapes were grown, and intended to encourage people to reuse the bottle. But, there’s more to this wine than its good looks. Unlike the overly sweet mass-produced versions that have given rosé a bad name over this years, Maison No.9 is fresh and appealing, with notes of citrus fruit, pineapple and strawberry, which Post Malone likens to a French dessert. And, while most rosé’s are best enjoyed as you soak up the sun, we think this version would pair just as well with richer, wintery dishes. Sure, summer may be long-gone, but that’s no reason not to enjoy a wine as smooth as this.
Maison No.9
Maison No.9 If you love the look of Post Malone’s Maison No.9, the good news is that it’s available in three sizes 750ml (£16.99), 1.5l (£40) and 3l (£99), but you’re going to have to act quick as the limited release is expected to sell out quickly. If you fancy putting it to the test against other rosé’s or want to stock up on a variety ahead of Christmas, here are some of the best wines that have made it into our recent round-ups. You can trust our independent round-ups. We may earn commission from some of the retailers, but we never allow this to influence selections. How to Properly Dispose of Your Vape Pens and Cartridges

Vaping cannabis is one of the most popular ways of consuming cannabis these days: it’s efficient, discreet, and there are many affordable models on the market. Having said that, the vaping industry continues to grow in size. But here’s the question no one is asking: what happens to all those disposed vape pens and cartridges? Have you thought about what happens to your pens and its parts when you throw it away? The truth is that vape pens and cartridges fall into the same category as batteries, printer cartridges, or light bulbs in terms of waste disposal. Unless you take them to a hazardous waste facility, consumers are not left with much choice on the right way to dispose of them -unless you educate yourself well on your state’s available recycling programs. In Canada, they’ve already made strides in this area. Tweed, a major cannabis company, partnered with TerraCycle, a recycling firm. Their Tweed x TerraCycle Cannabis Packaging Recycling Program was introduced on the day before cannabis was legalized back in October 2018. Within the first 6 months, they were already able to recycle 165,000 containers including those that are considered difficult to recycle such as bottles made with childproof covers, plastic bags, tins, tubes, and more. They have over 100 stores in Canada where customers can dispose of containers that are made from licensed producers. Vape Batteries Vape batteries that are made from lithium-ion are bad for the environment. They can leak or explode, and even start fires. Check with your municipal authorities on the available solutions for disposing electronic waste for your vape batteries; you can also ask your dispensary or even electronic retail shops in your neighborhood. You can dispose of batteries in battery recycling programs. Undamaged vape batteries can be donated. Check out retailers such as The Home Depot, Best Buy, Lowe’s and Staples for recycling programs to keep batteries out of landfills while reducing the impact on the environment. If you know someone who’s starting out with vapes, you can also give it to them! But if you have leaking or broken batteries, look for businesses that accept these kinds of batteries. Alternatively, if there are none in your area, look for local recycling centers. Even if some may not be able to accept it, they may be able to point you in the right direction. Additionally, for electronic waste, the general guidelines for them is to be completely discharged, cooled, and left in storage submerged in cold saltwater for two weeks. After then, you can wrap up the battery and throw it into the trash. Cannabis Vape Cartridges The sad truth is that cannabis oil cartridges can’t be recycled. That’s because vape pens and cartridges require so many materials in small quantities to produce just one. In most cases, a typical vape pen will require up to 30 different parts: from glass to batteries, coil, ceramic, and much more, which is why it isn’t as simple as tossing a used pen or cartridge into the recycling bin. Because of the complexity of this situation, traditional recycling facilities still don’t have the right resources to deal with them. It is also illegal for cannabis businesses to have drop-off bins; for one, vape oil cartridges are seen as contaminated products, which forbid them from being tossed into recycling services. Additionally, the unconsumed oil that remains in the vape pen cartridge no matter how much you try to finish it, can still be collected by the black market and resold. For example, in California, the cannabis waste regulations state that only certain cannabis waste management companies are allowed to process it. What Can You Do To Be A More Environmentally-Friendly Vape Consumer? Don’t feel helpless; there are steps you can take to reduce your impact on the environment while still enjoying tokes from your favorite vape pens. The best thing you can do is to invest in a high-quality refillable vape pen. Though the actual refilling will take some effort, you will be able to stop another pen or cartridge from ending up in the landfill. There are also numerous sustainable cannabis oil and vape pen brands out there. Just like caring consumers like you, many brands are committed to staying away from single-serve products. Educate yourself on materials that go into making vape products. Batteries that make use of cobalt or nickel cathodes are the most dangerous for the environment; aside from that, they are also toxic and can cause harm to human and animal health when disposed of incorrectly. It also helps to proactively look out for green dispensaries. Many of them offer discounts and incentives for customers who want to recycle their vapes; they also usually cooperate with manufacturers so to make it easy for customers to bring items wherever convenient – not necessarily back to the dispensary you bought it from. However, these kinds of dispensaries aren’t as common as we’d like them to be, so just reach out to your local cannabis community to see if they know of others. It’s also important for regulators and the proper authorities to implement laws making it easier for consumers in their area to dispose of vape pens, cartridges, and batteries responsibly. Though its just as important for cannabis entrepreneurs to come up with sustainable products, the responsibility doesn’t lie solely on them. Firefly CEO Steve Berg even went as far as teaming up with the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment and the Bureau of Cannabis Control to encourage lawmakers to create amendments in state cannabis laws that cater to recycling programs. “The original legislation did not really consider what happens to vaporizer cartridges after the sale, and these were things that could actually be recycled if the laws would permit,” Berg told the Californian. “Every state is different but it seems all states have this issue of not addressing the recycle aspect in their initial regulations.”

Meet the company that is revolutionizing e-commerce by conquering the mountain of packages outside your front door

It’s no surprise that convenient, generalist websites like Amazon are thriving this year as the coronavirus pandemic has forced most Americans into their homes for the long haul. In fact, in March and April, Amazon was even discouraging its customers from purchasing too many items, as the massive influx of orders was causing a shortage of items and shipping delays. Those issues aside, a growing reliance on online shopping is weighing heavily on the environment. According to Adobe Digital Economy Index’s latest data, U.S. e-commerce jumped by 49 percent in April, with online grocers experiencing a 110 percent boost in daily sales between March and April. Recent data suggests that e-commerce giant Alibaba’s single-day sales hit more than $38 billion in revenue this year, and according to Adept Packaging, those additional e-commerce sales resulted in 75 million extra plastic bags. Here is where industry newcomer Loop swoops in — the brainchild of entrepreneur Tom Szaky, who created the innovative recycling company TerraCycle as a Princeton drop out with the goal to recycle the food waste from the university dining halls into fertilizer. His company is now worth $20 million, and he’s branching out. In May of 2019 the program first started a webshop, supplying customers with the products they already know and love, from Haagen Dazs ice cream to Pantene shampoo and conditioner. The twist? Their containers were not just recyclable, but truly reusable — meaning they could be cleaned and then given a new life, if not a hundred. Now, big name retailers including Kroger are planning to make space in stores for Loop next year, utilizing TerraCycle’s refillable packaging system. Customers will be able to visit Loop stations to purchase a wide array of household products, all sold in stainless steel tins that Loop has specifically designed to eventually be returned, cleaned and sold again in a “milkman” style system. The refundable packaging does come at a small cost to consumers, who are required to pay a deposit that ranges from $1 to $10, depending on the container’s size and material. Loop’s Global Vice President of Creative and Communications, Lauren Taylor, says that the pandemic has fortunately not forced the company to shift priorities, sharing that, in fact, sales are at a platform-high. “Our priorities will continue to be aimed at eliminating waste and offering consumers their favorite brands and products in higher quality, better designed reusable packaging.” “Loop just launched in the United Kingdom July 15, and as of Sep. 15, 2020, Loop will be available to consumers in every ZIP code in the 48 contiguous U.S. states,” says Taylor. “Next year we will launch in Toronto, Tokyo and Australia. We are also working with select fast-food restaurants and beauty stores to provide reusable packaging to consumers. Be on the lookout for that in 2021.” How might that experience look in store? Well, at places such as Tesco in the United Kingdom and Carrefour in France, customers can be on the lookout for Loop corners, or areas of a store designed for products packaged in Loop’s containers. Aeon Co., Japan’s largest supermarket group, also plans to introduce Loop corners to 16 of their stores in the greater Tokyo area by next March. “We want people to come in and fall in love with these really cute, beautiful packages, understand the message and get excited about it,” Satoshi Morikiyo, general manager of  convenience goods at Aeon, told The Wall Street Journal. “Shopping trips are not necessarily something people look forward to, but this is a cool experience that offers something of a discovery—something new and fun.” Indeed, Taylor tells Changing America that with more than 100,000 people signed up for Loop, they’re excited to be expanding their services to the entirety of the continental United States and that rapidly growing consumer demand has secured Loop more than 80 partners and 400 products — a number that continues to grow weekly.

Recycling supports Women's Refuge

A local health store owner is working to improve his environment while raising funds for the Wexford Women's Refuge at the same time. Patrick Meehan, who co-owns the Natural Health Store on North Main Street, is encouraging people to recycle crisp packets and Pringles cans by dropping them off outside his shop. Neither crisp packets nor Pringles cans are suitable for local kerbside recycling collection and so traditionally end up in landfill or incinerators. Patrick explains how the idea came to him and how those who wish to take part can do so: 'I was looking for a way to reduce the amount of waste packaging the community produces, and I found these great free programmes run by TerraCycle to recycle a whole host of waste which the local council recycling collections can't accept.
