BUCKS COUNTY, PA (CBS) — St. Katharine Drexel Catholic School in Southampton, Bucks County made child’s play of a recycling challenge last school year, and now has a brand new playground made of recycled oral care products to show for it.
Recycling proficiency has earned one area Catholic school a new playground, and another the ability to help a fellow Catholic school in Texas heavily damaged by Hurricane Harvey. By winning an oral care products recycling contest sponsored by TerraCycle, Colgate-Palmolive and ShopRite, St. Katharine Drexel Regional Catholic School in Northampton won a playground made of those same recycled materials.

Terracycle, based in Trenton, works with local schools, offices, businesses and facilities with their recycling programs, providing incentives and even playground equipment.
For example, Hawthorne Park Elementary School in Willingboro won the 2016 Terracycle Recycled Playground Challenge, gaining a playground worth about $50,000.
Working with local businesses, Terracycle offered coupons for OfficeMax and Office Depot when students recycled their old binders.
The Community Excellence Award recognizes a small business that has demonstrated an exemplary level of leadership and community engagement to positively impact the quality of life in its community.
It pays to recycle.
Ask the students at the Hawthorne Elementary School in Willingboro.
Their hard work paid off in a big way recently when they were able to jump and climb on the new playground they won in the 2016 TerraCycle Recycled Playground Challenge for the first time.
The quest for the new play area began when Willingboro resident Lu-Ann Doyle, whose children and grandchildren attended the school on Hampshire Lane, wanted to get the students involved in a recycling project and help them understand the importance of saving resources and protecting the environment.
