Terracycle to the rescue again!
They have a Go-Go Squeeze Brigade!
Can you imagine if nursery schools and preschools and lunch rooms would collect empty pouches and mail them in??
Many eco-fundraising programs pay participants to collect and recycle such things as chip bags, beauty care waste and drink pouches. The Drink Pouch Brigade—offered by Capri Sun and TerraCycle—rewards participants and their schools with points and cash donations for collecting drink pouches. Hazelwood Elementary School in Washington did just that, using money generated through collecting drink pouches to help counteract school-wide funding cuts.
Memorial School is partnering with the TerraCycle Company to recycle juice pouches! All empty drink pouches will be collected in the recycling bin located in the cafe.
There are many things, that I reluctantly put in the trash, that can be reused: The 50+ a day Capri drink bags, Red Cups and cigarette butts can all be sent to
Terracycle. The 4 to 10 plastic food containers- a day can be cleaned up and recycled.
Millersville University is going green! The campus’ Center for Sustainability has begun to tear down the stereotypes surrounding the group of young environmentalists. Rather than hugging trees, the Center for Sustainability focuses on the three main pillars of sustainability as a whole: people, planet and profit.
Not one Frito Lay bag, big or small, goes to waste after lunch, when students deposit their empty bags to be counted and packaged in packs of 25. The school turns that trash into cash, participating in a Terracycle program called the Snack Bag Brigade that recycles those bags into usable products.
Each year the Pennsylvania Environmental Resource Consortium (PERC) recognizes universities across Pennsylvania with the Campus Sustainability Champion Award. This year, Millersville’s own Stephanie Bradley, a junior majoring in social work, has been nominated for the prestigious award to be announced at the PERC 2014 Fall Conference, held on Nov. 12 at Penn State’s University Park campus in State College. One of the programs at Millersville that Bradley helps to implement is TerraCycle.
We are excited to be doing TerraCycle again at RES this year. Not only does TerraCycle help the environment, it teaches our children to care for the earth. This year, some of the items we are able to collect have changed.
Have you seen the store aisle for back to school? There is so much there and hundreds of little and big sized crayons, papers, notebooks, backpacks, totes, etc... How do you decide what to buy? Do you take the kids and let them pick? Do you tackle the supply shopping solo for sanity? I take my youngest, but my teen can care less about shopping with me for supplies. We just do the clothing. I will find things on my own I know he will need. When in doubt, why not buy a product that has up-cycled the hard-to-recycle waste. Eco-friendly bags, lunch sacks and pencil cases from TerraCycle are fun and sport popular brands your child and teen love.
Back-to-school cool this year is all about the earth, recycling, and upcycling and wait till you see what TerraCycle offers for kids! Lavishly live back-to-school organization out loud, and love up on these fashionable, affordable, trendy, eco-friendly products that every kids will want!
