Planning to fill the pod
Lippitt School students know their three R’s – how to be respectful, responsible and ready. And to that they could add a fourth R – recycling. With the help of parents Kelly Pennacchini and Monica Burr, first grade teachers Christine Paquin and Wendy Bruce have introduced the Community Recycling KIDS program at the school with the intent of collecting 7,500 pounds of clothes and other soft goods. The goal of the program is to teach children about reuse and highlight how more than 70 percent of the world’s population is dependent on second-hand goods. With Paquin’s direction, the school is also participating in TerraCycle, a program to collect items from old computer keyboards to cell phones, salty snack bags and candy wrappers.
