Turn Your Old Flip Flops Into A Playground

CORPUS CHRISTI - If some of your old flip flops have seen better days, you don't have to throw them away. Instead of flinging your filthy flip flops into the garbage, you can bring them to Old Navy to be recycled. From now until May 21, you can toss your old rubber flip flops in a bin, putting your old shoes to good use. Terracycle and Old Navy are working together to turn those flip flops into four playgrounds around the country. "That one flip flop is going to be a playground, it's going to be a swing, it's going to be some part of some other kid's life," said store manager Paul Carrion. Giving new life to shoes that may have ended up in a landfill.

Flip-Flop Brigade via Old Navy from April 22nd to May 21st , 2011

Every year millions of used flip-flops are needlessly discarded and end up in landfills. TerraCycle® is proud to partner with Old Navy® to create a second life for used flip-flops. From April 22nd to May 21st Old Navy Stores within the continental US will collect used, dirty and broken flip-flops. Each store will have a box located near the entrance where you can drop off your flip-flops. Old Navy will send these boxes back to TerraCycle once the program is finished. TerraCycle will repurpose the flip-flops into playgrounds that Old Navy will give away to a few lucky schools or community organizations that participate in TerraCycle Brigades.
