One Stop Shop for Beauty at Nordstrom

Sharing with you guys some of my top favorites and go-to’s when it comes to beauty. I gotta be honest I have been using the same products for years and while I have tried different things and switched it up a little bit this are my tried + true picks overall. The basics – just like fashion I like to keep my basics solid and work off of them by adding accessories, layers, and jewelry. Same goes for beauty I like to start with my basics and stack on top of it with fun blush colors, beautiful hues of lipstick, and fun eyeshadow. Nordstrom is and has always been my one stop shop for beauty. I remember being a young girl and just drooling at my mom at the makeup counter. I could not wait for the day they would “color match” me or find the perfect shade of lipstick. Well now the day has come and I’m the one at the beauty counter still loving every second of it. I love going to Nordstrom for my beauty products because they have everything I have every needed and it’s so convenient. Nordstrom also launched a huge movement for recycling beauty packages called BEAUTYCYCLE where you can now take your empty beauty products to any Nordstrom and recycle them regardless of where you purchased them. I LOVE this so much! You all know 2020 has been my year to go greener and this is right up that alley. Talking a little more about my beauty picks below!

BEAUTY LINE UP

Estee Lauder Double Wear : This has been my holy grail foundation for years now. For starts it lasts all day and night – it does not budge! The coverage in unmatched and I love that it’s buildable. Somedays I go for a more subtle look with a thin layer and others I am able to use a little more for more coverage. I’m in the shade HoneyBronze. I love that they have so many shades to choose from to find the perfect match! Too Faced Bronzer Love this bronzer so much! I’m never without it. I love the medium shade. It blends well and gives a nice matte bronze look. Not to mention it smells like heaven! Too Faced Born This Way Concealer: I have only been using this concealer for the past year now but I’m never looking back. So many things I love about it! I love the coverage, how easily it blends, and the variety of shades they have. I wear Golden Beige and love it! CreamCup Lipstick : This is a go-to neutral color! Perfect for any season! I love creamcup for any occasion. It is a mix of nude/pink and so flattering on every skin tone. Pillowtalk Lipliner: This lipliner is a little on the pricey side but oh so worth it. Just like creamcup it is the pink/nude hue and this specific lipliner is such a great on to make your lips appear a little fuller than they are. Monsieur Big Mascara : This is what I like to call an OG mascara! It is a rich black color that not only gives you lashes extra volume but so easy to apply! Cils Booster XL Vitamin-Infused Mascara Primer: If you’re looking to giving your lashes a little extra volume and length you this is your primer. It is so good at giving your lashes extra length, volume, and helps your lashes stay curled longer, all while infusing your lashes with vitamins. Also, I have tried many lash primers and nothing compares to this one – worth the money. Mac Mineralize Skinfinish Powder Highlighter: I love all of the MAC highlighters but I especially love this one to give your face an extra glow! Especially for the cooler months it gives you skin a moisturized warm glow. Mac Studio Fix Powder: Another OG I have been using since high school friends. YES high school! It’s coverage is unreal and the consistency is so great! It stays all day and can be worn alone or on top of foundation. I’m in the shade C4 Brow Dip: I love brow dip! I have tried so many products and always come back to this brow dip. it is so easy to use and creates such a great brow. I wear the color chocolate. Single Pass Curl 1.25: This curling iron is a little splurge but boy is it good! The curl it gives is so consistent and last so long. I can go 3-4 days without recurling my hair. I also love the 1.25 barrel to give you that loose curl after it falls.

The Best Nude Pink Lipsticks I Love Year-Round

Finding the perfect lip color can be difficult. Plus, I hold my lipsticks up to a high standard: they must be long-lasting and I need to be able to eat and drink without them wearing off. A few years ago, I tried a liquid lipstick just for fun and it turned out to be my favorite formula of all time. Ever since I almost only wear matte lip colors and prefer them to be nude pink lipsticks. I love to mix and match and once I find a formula that works, I like to stick to it. I’m loyal to my lipsticks. I’m excited to share the best nude pink lipsticks I love year-round.

Recycling Your Beauty Products

Before we dive into my favorite lipsticks, I want to share something really exciting Nordstrom recently launched. Some of you may know I am a big proponent of not wasting product. I will squeeze every last drop of concealer and foundation, sometimes even opening the packaging to do so. Fun fact: on most tube packaging such as concealer you can take the “stopper” out with a pair of tweezers or pliers to get every last drop of product. I also cut open plastic foundation tubes and leave in a ziploc bag so I can use every bit of it! I try my best to recycle, but empty beauty containers are hard. It’s a mix of plastic, metal… and sometimes it’s not as easy as dumping into your local recycling bin. Nordstrom now has a program called BeautyCycle, where you can bring in your empty beauty packaging and they will ship it to Terracycle. There, it’s sorted properly and then recycled. It makes it easy and you know it’s being properly taken care of. Blogger Hoang-Kim wearing her favorite nude pink lip combos with Charlotte Tilbury liner in Iconic Nude

My Favorite Lip Liners

When I was younger, I thought lip liners were overrated. Now, I love them! I cannot do my lip combo without liner and I truly believe lip liners help your lip color last longer. I prefer creamy formulas that glide on. The color payoff has to be great and I prefer getting colors I can wear on its own, too.

Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat Liner

My all-time favorite lip liner to use with my nude pink lipsticks. The pencil doesn’t drag on your lips and truly glides on. It lasts a long time and the colors are beautiful. Iconic Nude is my favorite shade because it’s a true nude. It looks beautiful under any lipstick you decide to wear, so you can buy just this one liner and be done. Another color I love is Pillowtalk.

MAC Lip Pencil

The very first high-quality lip liner I ever used, I remember my Mom going into Nordstrom, walking up to the MAC counter and purchasing this lip liner and her favorite lipstick. Every time I use this lip pencil, I think of her. Whirl is my favorite MAC shade because it’s a beautiful nude with hints of a berry pink. While it’s perfect for Fall it’s a great shade for year-round, too. My Favorite Nude Pink Lipsticks

Too Faced Melted Matte

If I had to choose one nude pink lipstick to wear for the rest of my life, it would be this one. I can apply this in the morning and in the evening, my lip color would still be intact. This is through lunch, drinking tons of water and more! The formula glides on smoothly, doesn’t make my lips peel and the color is opaque. My favorite shades are Cool Girl (what I’m wearing in these photos), My Type, Child Star, Queen B and Sellout. Can you tell I love this lipstick!?

YSL Rouge Pur

A newer addition to my lip favorites, this lipstick is super creamy and the shade is beautiful. It’s not super long-lasting, but it’s very moisturizing and does wear well for the hours it’s on. I love shade 10, which is a true nude pink. This is truly a luxurious lipstick and I love using it with both the Iconic Nude lip liner or Whirl.

Charlotte Tilbury Kissing Lipstick

The name says it all: if you plan on doing any kissing (or eating or drinking) this lipstick is for you. Again, not as truly long-lasting as the Too Faced Melted Matte, but does a wonderful job. Ths is creamy, moisturizing and the color selection is gorgeous. My favorite shade is Nude Kate because it’s a true nude.

NORDSTROM BEAUTY FALL MUST HAVES!

Nordstrom Beauty Fall Must-Haves!

It’s been way too long since I did a beauty roundup on here! Nordstrom Beauty is having an amazing beauty sale right now that I had to fill my girls in on. Some of these products are staples for me, especially through the fall months, and some are new brands I can’t wait to try! I’m also so excited for Nordstrom Beauty’s new Beautycycle program that started this month! The goal is to help beauty lovers to reduce their packaging waste. From now on, anytime you finish a beauty product, you can just drop it in a Beautycycle bin at Nordstrom! All of the packagings will be recycled into brand new products – it’s so awesome. I’m planning on keeping a bag under my sink and just filling it up with empties (omg, who remembers empties videos?!) so I can drop them off the next time I head to the hallowed halls (aka, Nordstrom

My Favorite Skincare Products

Thanks To Nordstrom For Sponsoring This Post

I’m super excited to let you guys in on my skincare secrets. I have always struggled with acne for as long as I can remember, so I take my skincare very seriously. Beautycycle is now available at Nordstrom. You can dropped off any empty packaging that can’t go into your regular curbside bin at any beauty department in Nordstrom to help create zero waste beauty routine.   image.png  I have been on the hunt for products to help with the dark spots and scars the acne tends to leave behind. I did some research and headed straight to Nordstrom. I have acne-prone skin and have lots of acne scars and discoloration. It comes and goes. Over the Summer, my face broke out terribly. I couldn’t figure out what was going on—I think it was due the mask and the fact that I have sensitive skin. “Maskne”, as we are now calling it.   image.png  I picked up some amazing beauty products that I’ve been loving and they have made a big difference on my skin. Let’s start with my holy grail product: Kiehl’s Clearly Corrective Dark Spot Solution   image.png  This is a dark spot corrector and brightening serum that helps visibly reduce dark spots, hyperpigmentation and post-acne marks. I love this product; it has made such a huge difference on my skin care routine. It was highly recommended by the sales associate at Nordstrom. I have been using this serum religiously in the morning and at night and I have seen my dark spots fading. I witnessed a true, visible difference on my face within just a few weeks.   image.pngThe next item I picked up at Nordstrom was the Super Multi-Corrective Cream SPF. It such a product, and it goes well with the dark spot corrector. It has a great texture and goes on smoothly. It even gives my skin a bit of a glow. I use it at night before bed as a part of my night time routine. I wash my face and then apply my dark spot serum before moisturizing.I like that it’s a 5-in-1 formula that helps lift, firm, smooth, re-texturize and moisturize, along with SPF 30—a plus for me. I love Kiehl’s products because every product embodies natural, botanical ingredients with a clinical touch.   image.pngAnother favorite I picked up from Nordstrom Beauty is the Dior Capture Youth New Skin Effect Enzyme Solution. Not only is it pretty, but it also smells amazing. I use it as a toner as it helps eliminate dead skin cells and diminishes surface imperfections—just what I need to help get rid of my hyperpigmentation. I use this right after I wash my face, morning and night, before I apply my serum and moisturizer. My skin feels super smooth and hydrated the next morning. Another favorite of mine is the Bienfait Multi-Vital SPF 30 Day Cream. I love this because it has a 24-hour antioxidant and vitamin-enriched broad spectrum SPF 30 sunscreen and moisturizer.   image.pngIt has a perfect creamy consistency to apply on my face and it smells amazing. A good moisturizer is important because I use a lot of products to clean my face which tends to dry it out. This product helps moisturize my skin and leaves it feeling smooth and soft. Here are a few other products I use and love.   image.png

TerraCycle and Nordstrom partner on beauty products packaging recycling

International recycling leader TerraCycle recently announced a new partnership with leading fashion retailer Nordstrom to help divert hard-to-recycle beauty packaging waste from landfills through the Nordstrom Beautycycle recycling program. With less than 2 percent of the 120 billion plastic packaging units produced annually by the beauty industry being recycled, Nordstrom and TerraCycle are teaming to intercept and properly recycle these hard-to-recycle items and ensure that they will never be landfilled, littered or incinerated. Customers are invited to bring any brand of beauty packaging waste to the Beauty Department at participating Nordstrom locations and dispose of them in the provided TerraCycle Zero Waste Boxes. When full, the boxes will be returned to TerraCycle for processing and the collected waste will be cleaned, melted and remolded to make new products. Participation in the Nordstrom Beautycycle recycling program is completely free and is open to anyone. Using the interactive map found on the recycling program’s dedicated landing page at www.terracycle.com/nordstrom consumers can find the closest participating Nordstrom location where they can bring their empty beauty products to be recycled. One of the locations listed is the Nordstrom store in the Village of Merrick Park shopping center. “TerraCycle’s mission has always been to ‘Eliminate the Idea of Waste’ and we’ve proven that solutions do exist for items that may seem difficult to recycle,” said Tom Szaky, founder and CEO of TerraCycle. “Nordstrom not only shares our commitment but has taken it to the next level by spearheading the Nordstrom Beautycycle recycling program to reduce the impact of beauty packaging waste on the environment and help pave the way for a greener future.” TerraCycle works with major manufacturers and retailers to recycle products and packaging that would normally be thrown away. Some of my absolute favorites are my Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray, Ilia’s Mascara (the whole makeup brand is wonderful), and my newest obsession Charlotte Tilbury’s Pillow Talk lipstick & lipliner. If you are looking for the perfect pinky nude then this one is for you! I’m also excited to announce that Nordstrom has recently introduced Beautycycle which is going to help us all create a zero waste beauty routine! Starting this month, you can take your all your empty packaging like mascara tubes, spray bottles, etc to Nordstrom to recycle. In turn they will use the empty products to make new products like watering cans or park benches! How amazing is that! I hope you guys enjoyed this post and were able to find some brand new beauty favorites. Make sure to check out Nordstrom for all your beauty needs as well as to recycling your empty packaging!

Nordstrom Launches BeautyCycle Nationwide

Each year, more than 120 billion units of plastic packaging are used by the beauty industry to protect its products, but a minority of that packaging gets recycled. Nordstrom aims to change that with the nationwide launch of BeautyCycle in October 2020. Customers can now bring in their empty beauty product packaging to be recycled at any of Nordstrom's full-line stores or Nordstrom Local service hubs in the continental United States. Through this program, Nordstrom aims to take back 100 tons of beauty packaging by 2025 to ensure it's recycled.

BeautyCycle Helps Empty Product Packaging Get Properly Recycled

Nordstrom and TerraCycle partnered to create BeautyCycle, an in-store depository that makes it easier for empty beauty product packaging to be properly recycled. With many parts and pieces, beauty packaging is often incredibly difficult to collect, separate and recycle—if it even makes it to the proper facilities or a third-party solution like TerraCycle. With BeautyCycle, Nordstrom customers can now bring their empties to a store and drop them off in one of the designated bins, so that the packaging can be forwarded to TerraCycle, which weighs and sorts the material so that it can be turned into a useable raw material. At these in-store stations, customers can turn in everything from shampoo and conditioner bottles to lip balm and gloss tubes, eyeliner pencils, lotion bottles, hairspray bottles and much more.

Nordstrom and TerraCycle Announce Recycling Collection Program For Cosmetic Packaging

The cosmetics industry has a single-use plastics problem. Not only does the beauty and personal care industry produce around 120 billion units of packaging annually, but the packaging, though often made of recyclable materials, can feature individual components that are too small to get processed by curbside collectors. Even worse, it might come comprised of mixed materials, like a mirrored compact, and god luck trying to recycle that. To reduce the impact of plastic packaging from the cosmetics industry, New Jersey-based recycling specialist TerraCycle and retailer Nordstrom have announced a partnership that will make 94 of the department store chain’s outlets BeautyCycle drop-off locations. Now, the merchant will accept the beauty and personal care items from any brand, no matter where the customer purchased it.

The Cut: No. 15

As you know, I have a penchant for luxury things. And yet, at the same time, I have a strong passion for sustainable living. I’ve been thinking a lot about the relationship between experiencing and enjoying the luxury lifestyle and being a more conscious consumer lately. The more I think about it, the more I believe living a sustainable luxury lifestyle is possible. And as as time goes on, my goal to continue to share with you how to live a luxury lifestyle while still caring for our planet becomes stronger and stronger. To live a life of luxury while being mindful at the same time? It can absolutely happen.
 image.png
image.png
Which is why I’m beyond excited to share issue No. 15 of my monthly sustainable living series, The Cut with you! Keep reading to discover this month’s beautiful brands with me!
FASHION
Fashion is a large contributor to our landfills and pollution. To help our planet, here are some more great fashion brands you can purchase from and still do good.
JONNE AMAYA
I learned of Jonne Amaya just last week while reading Women’s Wear Daily and what she said in her interview is so profound to me. WWD had asked her: Any advice you have for other emerging brands and how they can incorporate sustainability? And her answer? “At the moment, it’s easier to be an emerging brand and start off with the right values, rather than be a big-name brand and try to change their reputation. Small brands should really dive deep into their process — research different materials that can be used, figure out a way to be impactful from the core, rather than try and make an impact vertically. For example, a lot of big companies that do not monitor their footprint often offer to donate a percentage of sales to ethical or sustainable research/ organizations. It’s counterproductive to do harm on one end, but fool your consumer by offering something good on the other end. Small companies can make big changes, and it’s small companies that hold larger companies accountable.” Overall, it was a great interview that made me think deeper about my actions as a consumer. Why wouldn’t you purchase from a forward thinking (and woman-owned) brand like this?!
JOHNSTONS OF ELGIN
It’s that time of the year for all the layers and cozy clothing. That’s where Johnstons of Elgin comes in. I discovered Johnstons of Elgin while surfing the web this past weekend. I loved learning that they were a sustainable clothing brand from across the pond! As someone who is looking to add more cashmere to her wardrobe (I only have one piece — I know, shame on me), I thought I’d share with you this beautiful, planet-focused company on this month’s The Cut. This brand is definitely on my list to learn more about when it comes to European brands. Their focus on sustainability absolutely blows my mind so I’ll let you click and have a read to see just how many areas they are focusing on as a company. You can purchases her pieces directly on their website or other retailers such as Net-A-Porter.

BEAUTY
Since I’m a huge beauty lover, I’m super excited to bring you more clean beauty brands I recently found that you can experiment with. Feel free to play with beauty with me! MAKEUP BY MARIO I discovered Mario Dedivanovic late last year (I know, shame on me) through his Artist Achievement Award acceptance speech on Instagram. He had me in tears. I don’t think I’ve ever wanted to hug someone I didn’t know so much. I loved him right away and loved him so much that I got lost in a deep rabbit hole watching video after video on his Instagram page. He seems like such a calm, peaceful, humble, sweet, and obviously, super talented guy. So was it a no-brainer to order some cruelty-free products from one of the world’s best makeup artists? Absolutely. Although I’m dying to purchase his Master Mattes Eyeshadow Palette because 1) I LOVE matte eyeshadow and 2) it’s a neutral palette (praise the Lord!), I ended up purchasing his eyeliner pencil and liquid eyeliner. Need versus want, right? Oh, and that doesn’t mean that palette isn’t on my wishlist, ha! You can shop Makeup By Mario directly on his website or Sephora!
LIFESTYLE
One of the biggest things I’ve started to do is to invest in items and services that are environmentally friendly. Here are my recent finds and don’t you worry, I’ll be sharing more eco-friendly brands pertaining to lifestyle as I find them! While I was planning and shopping to update my bedroom, I realized I wanted to switch out my comforter. However, instead of buying a new one, I looked for a duvet cover. During my research, I came across Ettitude and my search for a sustainable duvet cover and a black one at that, was over. I placed my order right away. Why? Because they had a vegan silk collection. What is vegan silk? It’s made of 100% organic bamboo, but looks and feels like silk. Winning! Although I’m not a full blown green living advocate, I still like to do my part for our planet. The goal is to get better. If you’re like me, why not treat yourself to a new set of eco-friendly sheets? They are SO soft that I had to include them in this month’s The Cut! You can purchase Ettitude products directly on their website.

INFORMATIVE ARTICLES/SOURCES
To continue to keep you informed and make better choices for our planet, here are some fascinating sources and/or articles I found regarding sustainable living. NORDSTROM WANTS TO END THE WASTE PROBLEM IN THE BEAUTY INDUSTRY Remember when I wrote about TerraCycle nearly a year ago? Well, they’re now teaming up with Nordstrom to become the solution to the waste problem within the beauty industry! And it just started on October 1st! Customers just need to bring their empties in-store. And if you’re like me, you wouldn’t be able to help yourself and shop while you’re there in-person. Nordstrom then increases foot traffic in stores, begins relationships with possible new customers while increasing sales at the same time? I think it’s absolutely genius! If you’re wondering what you can bring to recycle, you can bring A LOT! I’ve been saving empty bottles and a dry shampoo aerosol can (it’s about a year old?) to recycle and this is perfect timing! Have a read and let me know your thoughts! And that’s it for the eighth issue of The Cut for 2020!
What did you like most from today’s post? Feel free to comment and let me know if there is anything else you’d like to see in this series!
Note: Please note that there’s a website called The Cut that covers a ton of topics for women including fashion and beauty. My blog post series is in no relation to The Cut website as it only focuses on sustainable, more mindful way of living.
