It was also the subject of a very entertaining speech at the UNC conference by 32-year-old Tom Szaky, CEO of TerraCycle, which makes millions by recycling cigarette butts, dirty diapers, candy wrappers, almost anything. Szaky broke into the recycling business by using worms to turn his college cafeteria’s food waste into fertilizer.

Being committed to diverting waste from landfill and improving how much the company recycles, Mythics Green utilizes TerraCycle as part of our Recycling Program. TerraCycle is a company that takes non-recyclable or hard to recycle items and turns them into new, upcycled products. The reward for our participation is a point system, where we earn points to spend on our good cause of choice
If you do, it just got a whole lot easier. TerraCycle is a great program which partners with manufacturers to make it easier to recycle or reuse product packaging. It's a great premise. You save used packaging, such as the wrap that some cheese comes in or the squeeze tube of baby food or the whole kit and kaboodle of a box of wine.
For instance, we have only a few options for dealing with waste: compost it, burn it, TerraCycle it, return it for a deposit, or bring it to a waste transfer station. Every single thing that comes in must be dealt with and this makes us think twice about new purchases and the packaging it comes in.
Grace Christian Child Care is excited to announce we have teamed with TerraCycle and Huggies Brand to begin recycling plastic diaper and wipe packaging at our facility. Every year millions of pieces of plastic diaper packaging end up in the garbage. We are working with Terracycle and Huggies to provide a recycling solution for this waste.
TerraCycle and the City of Vancouver have launched a new pilot program to recycle cigarette butts. The program will help keep Vancouver clean and move the city closer to its Greenest City 2020 Action Plan goals. The center had, for three years, participated in the Candy Wrapper Brigade, a TerraCycle program that provided free waste collection for hard-to-recycle materials. The program also awarded points, redeemable for charitable giving, for each wrapper collected and covered the cost of shipping the wrappers to be recycled.
