SUEZ and TerraCycle join forces in Europe to develop recycling solutions

SUEZ is partnering with TerraCycle and acquiring 30% of its activities in Europe to develop innovative collection and recycling programs in Belgium, Finland, France, the Netherlands, the UK and Sweden. This partnership brings together TerraCycle’s collection programs, which focus on community engagement, and SUEZ’s expertise in waste recycling and recovery “We are delighted to embark on this innovative partnership with TerraCycle. TerraCycle develops selective collection systems for the recycling of more than 100 specific hard-to-recycle waste streams (disposable items, flexible packaging, office supplies, beauty products, oral care, used coffee capsules and cigarette butts) currently not handled by traditional recycling channels. “With SUEZ’s expertise, TerraCycle will offer more customised recycling solutions tailored to various waste streams,” explained Tom Szaky, CEO of TerraCycle.

Giving Coffee Pods Another Life

Waste Reduction Options

Nespresso pods are made from aluminium and are easy to recycle. A postage-paid Recycling Satchel can be used to return Nespresso pods for recycling. The satchels can be purchased for $1.90 from your retailer (they hold up to 130 capsules) and then dropped into any Australia Post office or box free of charge. Nespresso pods can also be dropped off in their Boutiques and a network of florists across the country. TerraCycle run a free collection program for NESCAFÉ Dolce Gusto Capsules and a paid program for other pods.

National Recycling Week 2016: So you think you can recycle?

What to do with the copious amounts of bathroom products we consume? Do you recycle your empty products such as shampoo and conditioner bottles, aerosol cans, glass perfume bottles, toilet rolls and cosmetic packaging? All of these can be recycled in your home recycling bin with the exception of cosmetic packaging, which can be done through a new program developed by Terracycle and L’Oreal Australia.

Fortunately, there are solutions. Recycling company TerraCycle has drop-off points at florists and garden centres around Australia and New Zealand for used pods. Nespresso has also just started selling pre-paid Australia Post satchels so consumers can send up to 130 capsules at a time back for recycling. Refillable and biodegradable pods are being developed to tackle growing environmental concerns too.
