Battaglia said collections were held at the YMCA, outside the senior center, at local dentists’ offices and outside Derynoski School. Collections were done in the school during the school year.
Eterginio said the Derynoski PTO will rally parents once again to work with TerraCycle and assist with the installation of the new equipment.

Students at John H. West Elementary School in Bethpage collected 13,500 units of oral care waste -- like toothbrushes, toothpaste tubes and dental floss canisters -- as part of the Colgate, ShopRite and TerraCycle Recycled Playground Challenge.
To build the playground, used dental products and discarded packaging were combined with high-density polyethylene, said Sue Kauffman, a spokeswoman for TerraCycle, the Trenton, New Jersey-based recycling company that built the playground.

The school entered a contest in which Colgate, ShopRite and TerraCycle give the opportunity to win a brand new playground made from recycle materials. The school can win a playground, village playhouse, a slide and gift cards.

Have you ever heard of a playground made of old toothbrushes and floss containers? Probably not. But for the kids, teachers and surrounding communities of St. Katharine Drexel Regional Catholic School, it was the first thing on their minds for most of 2017. After several months of hard work and dedication, it was announced in June that the Holland-based school was the winner of the TerraCycle Recycled Playground Challenge. On Nov. 2, the newly donated playground from TerraCycle, ShopRite and Colgate was officially unveiled during a special ribbon-cutting ceremony.
