TRENTON, N.J. —
Brita and
PUR have partnered with
TerraCycle to allow consumers to recycle their filters and reduce landfill waste, according to a press release.
Water filtration leaders, PUR and Brita, are making water better-tasting and helping consumers reduce the impact of plastic bottles on the environment.
During the school year, the Westfield Area Y’s Preschool, Kids Club and Kindergarten staff organized and implemented a Recycling program through the TerraCycle recycling company.

It’s easy to take water for granted in a country like the United States. Save for regions currently being devastated by drought (e.g. California), we practically have universal access to clean and meticulously tested municipal water. However, even with access to perfectly safe drinking water in our homes, schools and offices, we consume bottled water like it’s going out of style (it isn’t).
TerraCycle is a highly-awarded, international upcycling and recycling company that collects difficult-to-recycle packaging and products, that would otherwise be destined for landfills, and repurposes the material into affordable, innovative products.
Today is Earth Day and the month of May marks Coyote Howling's two year anniversary of coordinating TerraCycling in the community. What better time to update Ruidoso's role in the international growth of TerraCycle®.
The Holistic Moms Network will present The Great Unrecyclable Challenge in honor of Earth Day on
Tuesday, April 7, at
6:30 p.m. at the Woodruff Family YMCA, 631 Orange Avenue.
The group says there is a website called
Terracycle.com that tells people how to recycle items not accepted in city recycling collections.
This is a question we have confronted at TerraCycle in many different circumstances, as sustainable alternatives to existing products or materials are not always truly sustainable right away.
Last year, the GUSA Senate Sustainability Subcommittee started Georgetown’s extension of the initiative,
Terracycle, on our campus. Terracycle specializes in recycling objects that aren’t able to be recycled through traditional recycling programs.
Terracycle can recycle objects like Brita filters, ink jet and toner cartridges, cosmetics, toothbrushes, deodorant, shampoo bottles, or almost anything that can be found in the bathroom. Drop-off bins have just recently been expanded to every freshmen dorm and Hilltoss in the Healey Family Student Center.
