PACKAGE DEAL TerraCycle, a company devoted to finding new uses for hard-to-recycle waste (candy wrappers, cellphones, flip-flops), has teamed with the personal-care company Garnier to find new purposes for old cosmetics packaging. Used lipstick and mascara tubes, shampoo and conditioner bottles, nail polish bottles, eyeliner pencils and pretty much anything else lotion- or potion-related can now forgo the landfill and become a park bench or a trash can instead. Interested consumers sign up online (terracycle.net/brigades/personal-care-and-beauty-brigade), download postage and send in their waste.
