Loop, first announced
earlier this year, was created by international recycling leader TerraCycle in partnership with some of the world’s largest consumer product companies, including Procter & Gamble — the first consumer product company to become a partner. P&G brands like Tide and Pantene are now available through Loop in test cities.
If you can’t the next best thing is definitely recycling and recycling the bottles you have.
TerraCycle has a great vitamin bottles program you can join. Basically, they send you a cardboard box, you fill it with your vitamin bottle waste, and send it back. TerraCycle will make sure it’s recycled correctly.
Here’s what actually happens when you toss your plastic (and other recyclable materials) into the recycling bin: “Once you put a material in the blue bin, it’s collected by the waste collector of your city, which is a private entity, and taken to a material recovery facility that sorts all wastes into their right categories,” says Sarah Teeter, global project manager of
TerraCycle, a recycling company that handles hard-to-recycle waste.
The company has also pursued its sustainable goals by partnering with TerraCycle to help consumers recycle used pet food packaging through its Earthborn ReBorn program, as well as planting more than 650,000 trees through its UPCs for Trees program.

The company works with TerraCycle so that the filters and pitchers can be recycled into items like cutting boards, toothbrushes, and cups. Consumers can drop off their used filters at London Drugs locations in the western provinces, or mail them back (a minimum of three) to Brita for upcycling.

To kick off the summer, sustainability intern Melissa Krizan invited junior naturalists to participate in a zero waste recycling challenge using recycling bins purchased from TerraCycle. The kids filled those bins with old toys, art supplies and plastic bags. TerraCycle will sort the items and break them back down into raw materials that can be used again.

The Body Shop just started asking customers to return empties in store for TerraCycle to collect, recycle and transform for use making park benches and playgrounds.
