ELIMINATING THE IDEA OF WASTE®

Two Major Cities are Testing Home Delivery for Sustainable Household Goods to Help Save the Planet

Loop, first announced earlier this year, was created by international recycling leader TerraCycle in partnership with some of the world’s largest consumer product companies, including Procter & Gamble — the first consumer product company to become a partner. P&G brands like Tide and Pantene are now available through Loop in test cities.

HOW THE BEAUTY INDUSTRY IS CONFRONTING ITS RELATIONSHIP WITH WASTE

Here’s what actually happens when you toss your plastic (and other recyclable materials) into the recycling bin: “Once you put a material in the blue bin, it’s collected by the waste collector of your city, which is a private entity, and taken to a material recovery facility that sorts all wastes into their right categories,” says Sarah Teeter, global project manager of TerraCycle, a recycling company that handles hard-to-recycle waste.

Water Bottles Fuel the Plastic Pollution Crisis

Some people may wonder what happens to the Brita filters and pitchers when their life cycle has expired. The company works with TerraCycle so that the filters and pitchers can be recycled into items like cutting boards, toothbrushes, and cups. Consumers can drop off their used filters at London Drugs locations in the western provinces, or mail them back (a minimum of three) to Brita for upcycling.

Grant supports Cable museum’s Junior Naturalist and MuseumMobile programs

The grant helps cover the cost of program supplies, as well the new Eco-Heroes program. To kick off the summer, sustainability intern Melissa Krizan invited junior naturalists to participate in a zero waste recycling challenge using recycling bins purchased from TerraCycle. The kids filled those bins with old toys, art supplies and plastic bags. TerraCycle will sort the items and break them back down into raw materials that can be used again.
