Go green this Cinco de Mayo with recipes from Mission Foods <
http://www.missionfoods.com> and TerraCycle <
http://www.terracycle.net> . This does not mean that food itself is green; instead, the wrappers from the food products are surprisingly recyclable.
TerraCycle, has partnered with Mission Foods to collect the usually non-recyclable wrappers from tortillas, chips, and other food products and, indeed, recycle them.
Cinco de Mayo brings the opportunity to enjoy both cooking and recycling (yes, recycling) by spicing up the family menu in celebration of the Mexican holiday. Below are three delicious, family-friendly recipes from Mission Foods that feature ingredients with packaging that can be recycled into eco-friendly products and earn money for your favorite charity.

A great way to, not only celebrate Cinco de Mayo but take pride in the environment as well as earn money for your favorite charity. All that in just 3 terrific recipes.
Here's the scoop…
A company named TerraCycle <

What do cooking, recycling and Cinco de Mayo have in common? A recent partnership between
TerraCycle and Mission Foods.
TerraCycle, one of the fastest growing green companies in the world today, recycles and “upcycles” waste, including empty soda bottles, cell phones, Elmers glue sticks and bottles, cosmetic packaging and food wrappers. This company, created by Tom Szaky in 2001, started out by packaging and selling organic fertilizer in used soda bottles. Today, they “upcycle” waste into a variety of products such as brightly colored backpacks, garden supplies, toys and mini speakers.
TerraCycle is constantly seeking new waste and new ways to help the environment.
Their recent agreement with Mission Foods is just in time for Cinco de Mayo. If you use Mission Foods products to create tasty Mexican dishes, save the ordinarily non-recyclable plastic packaging to send to
TerraCycle for free. Simply go to the
TerraCycle website at
www.terracycle.net and join the Tortilla and Tostada bag brigade in order to print out your free shipping label. For every wrapper that you send to the company,
TerraCycle will reward you with two points redeemable towards special gifts or cash donations to the charity of your choice.

The team is an after-school club that meets to collect hard-to-recycle items that are usually thrown away, such as candy bar wrappers, granola bar wrappers, juice pouches, and dry markers. The Green Team recycles through the company TerraCycle, which pays Highlands for the recycling.
CORPUS CHRISTI - If some of your old flip flops have seen better days, you don't have to throw them away. Instead of flinging your filthy flip flops into the garbage, you can bring them to Old Navy to be recycled.
From now until May 21, you can toss your old rubber flip flops in a bin, putting your old shoes to good use. Terracycle and Old Navy are working together to turn those flip flops into four playgrounds around the country. "That one flip flop is going to be a playground, it's going to be a swing, it's going to be some part of some other kid's life," said store manager Paul Carrion. Giving new life to shoes that may have ended up in a landfill.
