Una empresa estadounidense revoluciona el reciclaje facilitando la participación del usuario en la transformación y reutilización de los objetos. Ahora llega a España y busca miembros para sus brigadas. Cuando alguien convierte un CD en un posavasos o una lata de conservas vacía en un lapicero está haciendoupcycling, o supra-reciclaje, que es el proceso de transformar un residuo, desfasado, inservible, en un objeto útil, de igual o mayor valor que el original. Éste es el concepto en el que se basa el modelo de negocio deTerraCycle, una compañía que lleva por lema “Aprovecha la basura” y se dedica a recolectar y reciclar desechos (lo que la mayoría seguimos llamando desechos) y convertirlos en nuevos (y muchas veces originales) productos, que a continuación vende. Actualmente está presente en 15 países. La fundó, en 2001, Tom Szaky, un universitario de Princeton (Estados Unidos) que primero había probado con fertilizantes orgánicos hechos a base de excrementos de gusanos, y al que hoy, a sus 29 años, hay quien compara con Mark Zuckerberg, el creador de Facebook.

Existe un proyecto que está llevando a cabo la empresa TerraCycle buscando alternativas constructivas con respecto a la recolección y reutilización de residuos, TerraCycle encabeza un plan que requiere una mínima participación de la gente que automáticamente se convierte en participantes del programa.

Esta empresa quiere eliminar la idea de la basura. A través de Programas Nacionales de Recolección, a los que también llaman Brigadas, recolectan desechos difíciles de reciclar o que habitualmente no se reciclan y con ellos fabrican nuevos productos creativos y amigables con el medio ambiente. La idea es encontrar una solución para cada desecho. Así, puede haber una Brigada de sobres de bebidas en polvo, una Brigada de envoltorios de galletitas, o una Brigada de cuidado bucal. Cada Brigada es patrocinada por una marca socia. En este momento, TerraCycle Argentina tiene una Brigada de Recolección de sobres de bebidas en polvo, auspiciada por Tang de Kraft Foods. ¿Pero cómo se recolectan los desechos? Es muy fácil. Son los propios consumidores los que se convierten en participantes de los Programas y envían sus desechos. Solo hay que registrar su Equipo de Recolección (puede ser una familia, un grupo de amigos, una escuela, una oficina, una ONG, etc.) en la página web TerraCycle: www.terracycle.com.ar. Comienzan a recolectar los desechos y cuando tienen una cantidad suficiente, TerraCycle coordina el retiro de forma que los participantes puedan enviar sus materiales totalmente fácil y gratis. Además, TerraCycle realiza una donación de diez centavos por unidad de basura recolectada a la organización sin fines de lucro o escuela que el Equipo participante elija como beneficiaria. TerraCycle ya está en más de 15 países del mundo. En Argentina, los números hablan por sí mismos. En solo ocho meses, hay más de 900 Equipos recolectando sobrecitos en todo el país y más de 250.000 unidades de basura recolectadas. Ayudemos a TerraCycle a seguir incrementando estos valores y a que cada vez seamos más los involucrados en proyectos de recolección de basura que generan grandes cambios y beneficios en nuestra sociedad

Så kan det være at Terracycle er mere interessant. Her kan man indsende sit skrald - pt. er det dog kun espresso-emballage fra et bestemt firma der er indgået aftale med. Dit skrald bliver omdannet til nye produkter. Man får ingen penge for sit skrald, men det er gratis at indsende det og de penge skraldet indtjener går til et grønt formål. Glæder mig til at der kommer andre affaldstyper med i projektet.

CONCORD, NC -- The New Year always brings resolutions at my house. I’ve had the same resolutions year after year, generic goals like getting healthier, losing weight and exercising more. This year, I made a bucket list of things I want to do, specific things that may help others or the planet, or both. Maybe if I focus on a greater good, a global good if possible, those other things will fall into place. By publishing the list, I am hoping I’ll be more inclined to complete them all (or at least make a much heartier attempt than in years past). Thank you, reader, for being my accountability partner. Naples Christian Academy receives WRAP Award from the Collier County Board of Commissioners

On December 13, 2011, Naples Christian Academy was awarded a WRAP (Waste Reduction Awards Program) award by the Collier County Board of Commissioners. The WRAP award recognizes businesses, institutions and multi-family properties for their enhanced and innovative recycling programs. The Academy was recognized for their increased recycling efforts and the message of the importance of recycling that they are advocating to their staff, students and families, through their regular recycling efforts, upcycling through Terracycle and their participation in the Dream Machine Recycle Rally contest. Naples Christian Academy received a beautiful framed certificate and trophy and was honored for their service to the community and for doing what they love to do most - serving and honoring God!
