Not sure what to do with used razors? Now you can recycle them thanks to Gillette

Shaving giant Gillette is teaming up with an international recycling company in a campaign aimed at keeping disposable razors, replaceable blade cartridge units and plastic packaging out of landfills.   TerraCycle, an international company that specializes in hard-to-recycle materials, is partnering with Gillette for the program beginning this month.   The Gillette Razor Recycling Program accepts all brands of disposable razor blades and cartridges, not just Gillette's devices.   “We are very excited about our partnership with TerraCycle to offer recycling for Gillette, Venus or any razor brand across the U.S. This is an important first step toward sustainable solutions for shaving products and the start of an exciting journey with Gillette and TerraCycle," Gillette CEO Gary Coombe said in a statement.   "We are thrilled to bring this option to our consumers in the U.S. and are already working on plans to roll out to more countries very soon," he added.   According to TerraCycle, razors can be shipped from home. To send them:
  • Join the program by clicking at the top of the Gillette Razor Recycling Program page.
  • When you are ready to ship them your waste, download a TerraCycle tracking label.
  • Affix your TerraCycle tracking label to your package and bring it to your preferred mail carrier to ship at your cost.
In addition, local businesses, colleges, cities and community organizations can sign up to become a recycling location.   “Through this innovative, first of its kind program, disposable razors, replaceable-blade cartridge units and their associated packaging are now nationally recyclable through the Gillette Recycling Program,” TerraCycle CEO and founder Tom Szaky said in a statement.   “We are proud to partner with this forward-thinking company to offer consumers a way to divert razor waste from landfills,” he added.

MGA partners with TerraCycle on L.O.L. recycling scheme

The partnership with Terracycle will make easier for fans to recycle L.O.L. Surprise! packaging.     Isaac Larian took to LinkedIn and Twitter on Global Recycling Day to announce MGA Entertainment’s new partnership with Terracycle, the global leader in dealing with hard-to-recycle or non-recyclable pre-consumer and post-consumer waste.   L.O.L Surprise fans can simply collect their packaging and product assets in a cardboard box at home; once the box is filled, they can visit the Terracycle website to get a shipping label before sending the box off for environmentally-friendly disposal.   The programme will kick off in the US in May, and will roll out internationally later this year.   “Soon all of MGA products and packaging will be recyclable,” said Isaac. “We all must do our part to save this beautiful planet for the next generation. #Globalwarming is NOT a ‘hoax’. It costs a few pennies more to do this. But it’s worth it and I like the trees and nature too much.”   Gary Pope, co-founder of KidsIndustries, commented: “This is great news, thank you, Isaac Larian. Now maybe your leadership might persuade others to follow.”

This Company is Paying for You (and Your Neighborhood) to Recycle Your Razors – Here’s How You Can Start

Rather than tossing your used razors in the trash and having them contribute to excessive landfill waste, Gillette is paying for them to be recycled – and they’re encouraging people to get their communities to do it as well. Consumers can now recycle their razors and all of their disposable packaging by shipping the used hygiene products to Terracycle, a US-based company that specializes in recycling items that are generally non-recyclable, such as cigarette butts, light bulbs, batteries, and hazardous waste. Gillette isn’t just partnering with Terracycle to process their own razor brands, either; participants can send in razor-related trash generated by any other rival shaving company – and Gillette will still foot the bill for free.

Furthermore, Terracycle is allowing people to create community recycling outpostsso that organizations, workplaces, school campuses, and neighborhood spaces can collectively package and send their shaving-related trash in one shipment. Once properly cleaned, separated, and processed, the trash can then be used to make new park benches, picnic tables, and other useful community items. MGA Entertainment, TerraCycle Team Up For L.O.L. Surprise Package Recycling

MGA Entertainment, Terracycle Team up for L.O.L. Surprise Package Recycling One of the biggest concerns in toy packaging is starting to be addressed.   MGA Entertainment entered into a partnership with Terracycle to make it easier for fans to recycle L.O.L. Surprise packaging. Starting now, fans can save all of their packaging, including wrappers, bags, balls, trays, and more, by placing them in a cardboard box. Beginning in the U.S. this May, parents can visit the Terracycle website to request a secure shipping label to have their L.O.L. Surprise packages recycled. An international program will roll out later this year.   The partnership was revealed on March 18, which is Global Recycling Day. MGA Entertainment CEO Isaac Larian promises that “soon, all of MGA products and packaging will be recyclable.”   The amount of waste generated by toy packaging has become a genuine concern in recent years, especially with the rise in the popularity of blind-packed and “surprise” toys, which often include layers of plastic, paper, and cardboard waste. The Toy Association recently launched the Smart Packaging Initiative (SPI) Tool in an effort to help toy makers create packaging designs that are more eco-friendly.

Gillette & TerraCycle Launch an Extensive Recycling Program

Gillette announces the launch of a three-tier extensive recycling program that is designed to offer viable solutions to excess consumption. The new eco-conscious initative is created in partnership with TerraCycle who is an international recycling leader. The planned program is designed to target waste on both local and national levels. For one, individuals who use Gillette are able to download a shipping label from TerraCycle's website and mail their unused razors for ethical disposal. The second activation in the three-tier extensive recycling program is focused on the local level as the brand is partnering up with businesses, gyms, colleges, cities and community organizations. These entities have the opportunity to become a drop-off zone for razors which will be later collected by Gillette for recycling. Thirdly, the company launches an On-Demand Recycling Program which is geared toward consumers who participate in Gillette subscriptions.

Recycling Cigarette Butts

Middleburg’s Sustainability Committee Stomps-Out Cigarette Litter with Help of Volunteers and TerraCycle Recycling Program

TerraCycle, the world’s leader in the collection and repurposing of complex waste streams, has joined forces with Go Green Middleburg to collect and recycle cigarette butts throughout the city’s districts. “Go Green started cigarette recycling after volunteers got tired of picking up hundreds of cigarette butts from streets, sidewalks, bushes, parking lots and storm drains year-after-year during the Town’s semi-annual cleanup events,” said Middleburg Go Green Committee member Lynne Kaye. “A little research showed that not only were the cigarette butts a pain for volunteers to collect, the cigarette waste also posed a hazard to the Town’s children, pets, wildlife and water quality.” Through this program, Go Green Middleburg is not only addressing the nation’s most commonly littered item but also a form of unbiodegradable plastic waste. Since implementing the program, cigarette collection receptacles have been attached trash cans all-around town. Exceptionally high-trafficked street-corners, benches and parking lots were also identified for receptacle placement during town-wide clean-ups. cigarettesThe organization currently maintains 13 receptacles in public areas which is a significant amount considering Middleburg’s smaller size. All of the collected waste is shipped to TerraCycle for recycling. When processed, the paper and tobacco is separated from the filter and composted. The filter is recycled into plastic pellets which can be used by manufacturers to make a number of products such as shipping pallets, ashtrays and park benches. “These receptacles will help keep Middleburg free of one of the most littered items on the planet,” said Tom Szaky, the founder and CEO of TerraCycle. “With this program, Go Green Middleburg is taking a step to reduce the amount of trash going to landfill while also preserving the area’s natural beauty.” TerraCycle has collected hundreds of millions of cigarette butts globally. Additionally, through its various recycling programs, it has engaged over 100 million people across 21 countries to collect and recycle more than four billion pieces of waste that were otherwise non-recyclable.

Gillette To Offer Recycling of Disposable Razors

Announces new brand-blind US program with TerraCycle. Through a new partnership between Gillette and TerraCycle, all brands of disposable razors, replaceable-blade cartridge units and razor plastic packaging can be recyclable on a national-scale in the US. “Through this innovative, first of its kind program, disposable razors, replaceable-blade cartridge units and their associated packaging are now nationally recyclable through the Gillette Recycling Program,” said TerraCycle CEO and founder Tom Szaky. “We are proud to partner with this forward-thinking company to offer consumers a way to divert razor waste from landfills.” According to the P&G-owned brand and TerraCycle, consumers are invited to recycle their razors in three ways: • Gillette Razor Recycling Program - Participants wishing to recycle their razors from home are invited to sign up on the program page https://www.terracycle.com/en-US/brigades/gillette. When ready to ship their waste, they can simply download a self-funded TerraCycle tracking label, package the razors in a secure, puncture-proof package and send it to TerraCycle for recycling. • Gillette Razor Local Recycling Solutions – Businesses, gyms, colleges, cities and community organizations are invited to become public drop-off points for the Gillette Razor Recycling Program. Participants interested in becoming a drop-off point are invited to sign up on the program page https://www.terracycle.com/en-US/brigades/gillette-local-recycling. After acceptance to the program, they will be sent an exclusive razor recycling bin developed by TerraCycle and Gillette. Once full, they can simply seal and return the bin to TerraCycle via UPS and a new one will be sent back to them. The address listed in the account will be posted on the publicly-available map of local recycling solutions on the Gillette Razor Recycling Program page. • Gillette On Demand Razor Recycling Program – Consumers that participate in the Gillette On Demand subscription service are also invited to recycle their razors through the Gillette Razor Recycling Program. They can sign up on the program page at https://www.terracycle.com/en-US/brigades/gillette-on-demand; when they are ready to ship their waste, they can simply download a self-funded TerraCycle tracking label, repackage the used razors in the Gillette On Demand delivery box and send it to TerraCycle for recycling. “We are very excited about our partnership with TerraCycle to offer recycling for Gillette, Venus or any razor brand across the U.S. This is an important first step towards sustainable solutions for shaving products and the start of an exciting journey with Gillette and TerraCycle. We are thrilled to bring this option to our consumers in the U.S. and are already working on plans to rollout to more countries very soon,” said Gillette CEO, Gary Coombe. Organizations that participate in the Gillette Razor Local Recycling Solutions as a public drop-off location earn money for the waste that they recycle through TerraCycle’s Sponsored Waste Recycling Program. For every shipment weighing at least fifteen pounds, collectors earn points that can be used for charity gifts or converted to cash and donated to charities of their choice. The collected packaging will be recycled into a variety of new consumer products such as park benches, bike racks, pet food bowls and recycling bins.

How to Recycle Your Used Razors

Have a bunch of used razors lying around your bathroom? Well, forget throwing them in the trash where they’d usually land—now, you can recycle all your disposable razors, hairs and all, and all it takes is a simple package in the mail. This week, Gillette announced it’s partnering with TerraCycle, an online recycling program, to collect razors and blades of all kinds and brands. What types, exactly? Think of any plastic disposable type, as well as any replaceable-blade cartridges. The program will even accept all the rigid or flexible plastic packaging that comes with your razors. According to the program’s website, your razors won’t be re-used to shave another stranger’s legs or neck. Instead, any plastic material will be cleaned and recycled into new products like picnic tables, benches, and even pet food bowls. Meanwhile, the metal from the razors will be smelted for re-use by manufacturers. While the exact impact of disposable razors isn’t known, an EPA statistic back from the 90s estimated that Americans throw away some 2 billion razors each year. And think about how that number has probably changed dramatically, given that so many gym and spas now stock locker rooms with a near limitless supply of disposable razors (not to mention the rise of buzzy, low-cost brands like Harry’s and Dollar Shave Club, which promote re-usable razors with disposable blades).

So give your old razors a quick rinse and pat dry (though the program’s website doesn’t explicitly require it, it’s just good etiquette, in our opinion) and ship ‘em off! It’s safe to say they’ll serve a much better purpose by helping improve our public spaces as benches than in our landfills.
