Weed giant Tweed and recycling company TerraCycle have created a
free program for recycling any and all packaging legal recreational marijuana comes in in Canada.
This year, CBC stations in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Gander and Corner Brook did something about just that. They got boxes from a company called Terracycle, and have been collecting exactly this kind of waste.
The boxes aren't cheap: they cost $86 a pop. But John Gaudi of
Labrador Morning told me it was something the program wanted to take on as a campaign for all of November.
Terracycle is a waste management company that specializes in handling hard-to-recycle household items, including wrappers left over from delicious Halloween treats and other snacks.
Before the smoke-free policy, Fanshawe placed numerous cigarette butt receptacles throughout the College’s designated smoking areas. These receptacles were regularly emptied and their contents were shipped off to a specialised recycling facility called TerraCycle, where the plastics from the butts would be turned into items such as park benches and playground equipment.

The material can be recycled through private companies such as Terracycle, but that disposal comes with a price. Citizens should make efforts to return election signs to their respective candidates, which can be made responsible for their storage or disposal.
Also, Canopy Growth has partnered with TerraCycle, which focuses on hard-to-recycle materials, to create a national recycling program. Tweed stores, or partner retail locations, will collect materials including tin containers, plastic bottles, plastic caps, plastic bags and joint tubes and send them to TerraCycle.
According to the Tweed website, the company will also accept discarded packaging from other licensed cannabis brands.
Speaking of garbage, the intermediate level is a great time to get serious about recycling. Look for programs that recycle items cities often don’t.
TerraCycle, for example, collects everything from sheet masks and coffee capsules to light bulbs and batteries. Some brands or retailers, including L’Occitane, Nespresso and Staples, will also recycle your empties if you drop them off in-store or mail them in. Plus, there are often added incentives: At M.A.C, you can score a free lipstick if you bring back six finished products.
KITCHENER — A volunteer-run recycling program is keeping a serene, little-known city park clean and green.
Area residents near
Lakeside Park, a lush oasis close to St. Marys Hospital, used a city grant to purchase recycling bins for their neighbourhood park and take turns emptying them.
