When an Auckland company wanted to recycle its coffee pods, an international business came up with a novel solution. "We drink a lot of coffee here, and the pouches don't get recycled. So, we looked for a way to recycle them and we found TerraCycle," Sallis said.

When we were invited to try out the glossy Stelia Automatic Coffee Maker by DeLonghi, we were thrilled (again). Let's not forget about the environment though. As for all of those empty coffee capsules, Nescafé® Dolce Gusto® and TerraCycle are pleased to announce an innovative worldwide partnership to reduce and recycle the waste.
The smart people
at TerraCycle came up with a brilliant idea: recycling! But what is TerraCycle and what do they do? In their own words:
“TerraCycle offers free recycling programs funded by brands, manufacturers, and retailers around the world to help you collect and recycle your hard-to-recycle waste..."
Clever right? And not only, using this service is completely free and very easy. All you have to do is
sign up on their website and join the recycling program you like (in this case theNESCAFÉ Dolce Gusto Capsule Recycling Program). When you have collected enough capsules and you are ready to recycle them, put them in a box (use an old recycled box and make sure your capsules are dry – I put them in Ziploc bags, just to be extra safe), get the shipping label sent via email, print it and drop the box at your nearest Australia Post office. All done and without having to spend a cent. All that would already be great, but TerraCycle does more: you will earn money for each capsule you send for the non-profit organisation of your choice!
For this amazing programme, TerraCycle has partnered with
NESCAFÉ Dolce Gusto and
DeLonghi and they sent me one of their beautiful Stelia machines to try out. I must admit that I was very impressed.
So, what are you waiting for? Get your Stelia machine, start trying out all the delicious NESCAFÉ Dolce Gusto flavours and recycle all your capsules now
with TerraCycle!!
Terracycle provide a great service that allows you to recycle your pods. You will need to collect them, clean them and send them through the post, alternatively depending on the brand you use, you can take them back to the store and have them recycle them for you. Nespresso pods can be taken directly to a Nespresso store that offers the recycling service. Nescafe Dulce Gusto pods can be sent to Terracycle for recycling.
You can now recycle your unwanted goods and support the work of Conservation Volunteers all at the same time! TerraCycle’s goal is to eliminate the idea of waste by engaging consumers in the collection of non- recyclable product and packaging waste. For every piece of waste collected you can donate two cents to Conservation Volunteers. In addition to diverting waste from landfills and engaging consumers, the waste is either recycled or upcycled in to new products. These products include garden beds, park benches or walkways, all of which can be used in Conservation Volunteer projects across the country.
