TerraCycle’s goal is to eliminate the idea of waste and minimise the amount that gets sent to landfill. It is an eco-friendly recycling company that has become a global leader in recycling typically non-recyclable waste.
TerraCycle offers a range of free programmes that are funded by conscientious companies, meaning collectors can recycle their waste for free. They simply need to sign up, start collecting, and send their waste via NZ Post with a prepaid shipping label. Even oral care products, yoghurt pouches, plastic food storage products and various brands of coffee capsules can be sent for recycling.
TerraCycle awards collectors with points that can be converted to donations to a chosen charity or school. To date, over 60 million people are collecting in 20 countries and have collected billions of pieces of waste, raising over 15 million dollars for charities around the world.
To date, TerraCycle has collected 482,466 units, or 4.99 tonnes, of waste in New Zealand alone. It also educates the community on recycling through outreach to community groups and schools.
