Every year, billions of drink pouches end up in dumpsters and landfills across America. TerraCycle, an eco-friendly recycler, converts the drink pouch material into innovative products from tote bags and pencil cases to plastic lumber and pavers. TerraCycle awards points for the approved juice pouches received, and the points can be redeemed for a variety of charitable gifts or for a payment of $0.02 to the school. The Garfield Greensters have collected more than 13,000 pouches and earned $260. The Garfield recyclers are also part of the The Dream Machine program that gives schools a change to earn rewards and compete for prizes in their recycling efforts.
